The new manufacturing system under development makes some changed to the way widgets are built. While I do like the idea I have one concern regarding items with long build times and a possible decrease in production efficiency.
Some ships take a long time to build. I often do 10 runs of destroyers for example. If it takes a couple days for the entire batch to be finished . I'm guessing (from the way I read the description) I'll not have access to any of the finished product until the ENTIRE batch is done. While I understand the desire of the devs to reduce lag doesn't this seem a bit silly and inefficient?
It will also reduce the efficiency of T2 ship producers as they have longer production times. Unless you are ONLINE at the precise moment when the batch is done so you can restart it you can't be producing 100% of the time with a particular bpo.
A possible solution would be during down time any completed widgets in the batch are released to the owner. Since its during down time there won't be any lag issues and the producer can then start to use / sell whats already been produced.
To allow people to make something 100% of the time, why not allow people to modify the parameters of the batch on the fly. For example: You have a batch run of 10 widgets and would like to make more. You change the batch from 10 to 20, adding more minerals and isk to pay for the additional runs.
Adding these two features will minimize the impact of the new manufacturing system and while not increasing in game lag...

Well, your suggestions introduce other bigger problems.
First of all, letting people get the manufacturing results when ALL batches are done, means smaller production orders and higher chances for other people to start their production. With the planned manufacturing and R&D it only makes sense to do the largest possible order you can just to make sure you are producing 100% all the time. And you don't have to wait for all batches to finish. Thus, you still occupy a slot (and if you can change the parameters while in production phase, even worse).
The main idea (as much as i understand it) of this sistem not to reduce lag (although it will theoretically), but to offer/force the manufacturers that want 100% productivity to build their own POS.

Right now you can lock up a manufacturing slot and there's very few places I roam where you can't find an empty slot or two.
HAC prices will go up as it will be harder to produce those items flat out as well.
For those items that are hard to come by (HAC's) the minor loss in efficiency is going to increase the volume of complaints.

if there are many short jobs in a production queue(such as manufacturing lot's of ammo), i'd suggest a "give out completed items". when the button is pressed, the server would release the completed items. this way you could always get what's done, and don't have to interrupt the process or modify it. and still, it reduces the lag.
