Mining is dull, yeah. But protecting a miner is not. Not always at least. I’m up in P*********, protecting a miner friend. Protecting from rats (up to thoraxes), sure. But in a 0.4 there are other entities around. Now, don’t get me wrong, I understand that pirates add the element of ‘risk v. reward’ to low sec mining and some excitement to the game in general. In high sec. it’s ore thieves, in low sec it’s pirates, so u just have to choose. However, after more than 4 months in EVE I’m still a n00b with 4mil SP almost all in learning skills and noooo pvp experience whatsoever (until today that is). Therefore, I mostly just hope that no pirates will harass my miner friend. I’m flying a celestis with 3X 150mm iridium and 2X arbalests with flameburst Light miss. I got 2X 400mm plates (2000 armor HP) a 10mn AB and some cap batteries. My skills suck, so that’s the best weapons I can fit atm, but they are ok for rats’ cruisers and frigs in any case. Anyway, the barge is happily striping jaspet and omber from this belt and I have killed a hundred more rats today and all is well. This guy (lets call him “Bish”) with a -0.0 rating and member of a ominously named corp has been around for some time now killing rats in his moa, but he’s even n00ber than me and I almost wish he’ll try something (against the oh-so-mighty-powerful me). When the can is full (as Murphy’s law dictates) and we start the hauling process, Bish shows up, but he’s not alone. There’s a guy named eeer…. “Tiks” with him in another moa. Same corp, but a lot more experience (more than a year around). This is getting serious. The miner hastily leaves, while I get my drones out (just 3 of them :-)). A small band of rats appears, there’s some teamwork there, but that nasty ominous feeling is present again as soon as they are gone. Now, we are about 18 Km apart and for a whole 3-4 minutes nothing happens. In the mean time, the miner comes in gets an iteron-full of ore and leaves. Just then I hear that unmistakable “you’re been locked” sound and I see the two moa’s flashing yellow in overview. Not for long, though. One of the yellows is replaced by an angry red and my shield is dropping. Loosing some valuable time trying not to die from a heart attack and also not to shoot and agro “Bish” who hasn’t fired yet, I switch to “Tiks”, send my drones and ……. hit F1, F2, F3 etc. etc. etc. My shield’s gone and I’m into armor and this guy still has 80 or 90% shield. I get hit by heavy missiles (had to check log for that) and probably medium rails. I start my med. rep. but it doesn’t seem to do any good. Now I’m getting close to structure and I decide to warp out, even as I see one of the moa’s closing on me (scrambler?). I forget my drones, of course, and barely make it out in time, while I am having that heart attack after all. Afterwards, I talked with these guys and protested about being 2 to 1 with better ships and experience of course), but, really, it was fun and I should probably thank them for it. I still believe that I could have pwned “Bish” 1v1 (and probably I should have aimed at him first during that short encounter) and I look forward to meeting (just) him again. I lost that battle, but I stayed alive and learned some things. As for more pvp, it seems inevitable in the near future: If it doesn’t keep coming to me, I’ll make sure I find some myself, soon. (Just have to get my !#$#^!$^learning skills finished, so I can do some REAL training and get to use my new thorax).
P.S. Any pvp corp. recruiting?

I think what he means is put some spaces in there. Reading a large block of words sucks. Especially when people set their screen resoulution up high.

Good work mate, interesting read :P
Go train the sensor linking skill, and use the Celestis strengths.. Its a good ship when you play to its bonuses.

That was the most incoherent and grammar-voided few sentences i've ever seen written, but I 100% agree with you.

LOL. That was a bit, eeer, weird , but MY english is not much better and I think he's right anyway. Thanks for the GL, I'll probably need it, judging from all those active pvpiers around.
P.S. Spaces for sale, you buy 2 you get one 4 free. Come one, come all. I practically give them away, cutting me own throat here.

That was a nice read velocoraptor. Not many people post on their downfalls, usually just on how they wtfpned soom guy.
Now that you have taken a bite of the pvp apple so to speak enjoy it m8. I would suggest going out in a frigate and finding some targets 1st, as imo cruisers suck. I would also suggest training for interceptors and assault frigs. They are great fun and easily replaced, if required

The first pvp experiences is the best i tell ya ;) You get some cool rushes by whats happening and if you keep it going you'll learn more and kick those guys ass in a soon future.
I wish you the best and good luck in making your way trough Eve..

Words cant describe my disappointment with the evolutionary net that apparently let you slip through.

Hey, thanks for all the support guys . I suppose that, yes, my setup kind of sucks, but my skills are not really impressive atm (and yes, I plan to stay for a while, so learning skills should prove useful in the long run). Anyway, what I really wanted to say with that huge post up there, is that I don't know if I'll ever be good at pvp, but I'm sure, now, that I'll enjoy it a lot See you all in game, fly safe (eeeer, or not )

okay then - PvP is the way to go in this game
But, I wouldn't say death over the miners and mission w***es more than anyone else. Who do you think build the ships we buy? Miners! Who puts all the named items on market at cheap prices, so that we can buy them, and use them to kill miners later on?!
It's all a nicely balanced circle, and I certainly hope not the all eve players go PvP at some point, because then this game will be dead!
Oh..all must die ------------------------------------------------

My first PvP involved two pirates in a scorps and me in a ferox.... Totally scrambled and unable to warp. Not much fun watching my shield getting ripped to pieces by torpedos(pre missile changes) interesting but not much fun... ------------------------- Sunny Iceland, -sland bezt Ý heimi!
