I've only had the chance to skim over information on the subject of passive tanking and am in the process of doing deeper research. Thanks pottsey for some great post sources out there on the subject.
However I am wondering two things. Has anyone found it possible at all or worthwhile, in which case I'll spend extensive time finding what works for me. And also is there any speculation towards validity of it with upcoming changes. I know as it stands right now extenders are less effective then they should with the changes coming out. I'd be interested to hear any thoughts on it.
I'm also just now getting into Raven's and this is also my first combat battleship. 20mil SP, very strong support very specialized. I have been maximizing everything small before stepping up. The ship will predominantly be used for missions/deadspace either solo or perhaps with small company at times.

I'm not to experienced on the whole setup but the concept seems to work decent enough for a post somewhere around here. I just can't remember if it was for the Raven or the Scorpion. Either way, some people do it and can do it well. Just have to find that thread. It has a bunch of useful information on what works well when passive shield tanking/boosting and what doesn't.

Its very useable now with the new test server changeÆs, passive tank resistance boosting skills and new invul fields. Log onto the test server and give it a go. If it fails at least you donÆt lose a Raven on the live server. _________________________________________________ Nominate famous people in Eve who had an impact on you. |

Don't know about the coming changes but for lvl 3 missions I have a large t2 shield booster, amplifier, em resist hardner (named about 33%), thermal resist hardner (named about 33%), 1 cap charge array. I also have a nos in a hi slot and nothing on lvl 3s can break it. Also NPC BSs cant break it either, but lvl 4s will need better skills/modules (atleast in my case).

It's not really a passive tank (well quite far from it tbh). A passive shield tank uses passive shield recharge to tank, and is obtained with a mix of shield extenders / shield rechargers / shield power relays. Depending of your cap left, you can opt for active/passive hardening though. And on some ships, a semi-passive tank prove to be really good (eg. a passive tank but with a med shield booster instead of an extender/recharger somewhere to help staying at the shield recharge peak).

Ahh I see, I thought he meant passive hardners vs active ones. Thanks for correcting me, I've never approach shield tanking like that and will have a look into it.

Take a look at Pottsey's reference thread it'll give you some ideas, and help figuring the mechanics. One could say it has become the bible of all passive shield tankers and wannabes :)

Many people have tried making passive tanking possible. All those weeks spent doing some hypothetical calculations and still it sucks balls.

ôi tested it passive tanking is worthless in evry wayö What went wrong with it for you? ItÆs limited to the ships it works on but its far form worthless in every way.
ôMany people have tried making passive tanking possible. All those weeks spent doing some hypothetical calculations and still it sucks balls.ö Its prefect for people wanting to do level 3 missions risk free and it even works for lvl 4 missions solo but there is risk. It even works for some types of PvP.
Passive tanking is also getting a boost in the next patch.

i passive tank in my ferox, get about 35 shield/sec for "free" with low skills (only got 1.9 skills overall, 1.1 in learning!) using a t2 large shield extender, and a t2 med shield extender (crap skills, all i can fit atm)
