I wonder which is the most damaging BS if it were to be setted up with the most powerfull weapons and ammo considering all fitting/damage mod skills are at maximum (gunnery skills, missile skills, weapon and advanced weapon upgrades, etc). Also assuming the target is big and stationary (like a POS CT) with no rezist and no tracking issues. Also range isnt important (assuming every battleships fires from its optimal using the best ammo).
So what would be the most damaging setup:
- Apoc with 8x Tachs II on highs, RCUs II on low to fit the tachs + rest with damage mods. - Tempest with 1400mm II and Siege Launchers - Megathron with Neutron Blaster Cannon II - Arma with mega pulses II
Or what setup.
Thanks in advance for your input. ------------------------------------------------

Armageddon with megapulses, 8 heatsink t2, wins the damage contest. Add drones, 10 ogres II, and Arma still wins.
That's on basis of theoretical dps. As the lowest dps weapons also often have the highest volley damage, in very short engagements (very few seconds) the lowest dps ships (tempest) do actually more damage than the highest dps ships.

Edited by: Idara on 24/10/2005 20:09:28 Also if you take into account resistances the Armageddon is that great as it only does EM/Thermal and once through shields, the damage is basically halved.
Depending on how the target is tanking of course. -------------------------------------------------------- Lance Corporal BSC Military

Iirc when going for a pure damage setup the 'thron has enough spare cpu to fit a large smartbomb/launcher whereas the geddon doesn't. However, the range of application of that megathron setup is severely limited compared to the geddon.

Edited by: Canine Fiend on 24/10/2005 20:12:53 Tempest would win for First Strike Capibality, with the best one volley dmg, Geddon wins for DPS. For the tempest there would be no seige launchers involved, 6 1400 IIs with the best named gyros in game, all required skills at 5. Wrecking shots over 3000.

That depends on what you're shooting at, Torps suck right now... if your target was any smaller then a dread and moving you wouldn't get max dmg.

i was thinking on a single volley it'd be very close between a tempest, 1400s and sieges and a raven full sieges
Take your target as a secure container can (no resistances/equal resistances and equal sig rad for weap types)

Actually, if the target is a can, the tempest will win hands down. Missile damage is massively reduced due to the can's small sig radius. :P
Nothin' like seeing your missile hit a giant secure container for, IIRC, 170 damage when its base damage is 720.
It's even more insulting when you hop in your tempest, shoot at the can, and wreck for 1600 damage with tech 1 guns. -Wrayeth

Theoretical max dps is 738.8 with t2 stuffs, maxed skill and 5 BCU t2. A setup that doesn't even fit. Then, there is the damage reduction due to speed and sig radius to account. Theoretical dps isn't affected by flight time, but this is one of the flaw of the standard theoretical dps calculations. Obviously, 740 dps with 10 seconds flight time in a 20 seconds fight is only 370 dps in actual combat (not accounting volley damage here, another flaw of the standard dps calculations).
So, the usual figures don't show everything, although they aren't completely off either.

The OP asked for most dmg vs a large stationary target, so if you *don't* need to tank any dmg(sounds like what the OP is asking), a Raven with torps and like all target painters in meds could do quite a bit of DPS, esp considering you could use torps in line with the target's weakest resist.
If you were to use a Megathron, you would probably want to do something like 7x Ion Blaster Cannon II's and the best Siege launcher you can use...that should come close to fitting without any need for PDU's or RCU's, but I'm not certain it would. Then you'd want to fit like 6x Magnetic Stabalizer II's and 1x Ballistic Control Unit II....provided you had the CPU to do so...and then complement that with 10 Ogre II's. Others seem to think the Armageddon would win, and I suppose they would know.

pfft!
IF the target is a battleship, then the Raven will come out to be 3rd or 4th at best.
If the target ain't a battleship, then it is 2nd to last...only the scorpion performs worse in terms of damage. I guess you could argue that you can load out the med slots with T2 painters. Even then that might not be enough...

Definitely isn't. I tried an armor tanked raven with cruise launchers and 3 target painter II's in the mids, and, even at full damage (before resists), couldn't break a zealot's tank without resorting to nos (with a full armor tank, I didn't have the grid to fit siege launchers and had to resort to cruise).
My tempest on the other hand, has wtfpwned a zealot in three volleys from its 1400's. -Wrayeth

far and away the most damaging bs is the geddeon w/ megapulse mentioned its closest competitor is probably the blaster mega but good luck getting into optimal range most of the time but the 1400mm tempest has much higher burst damage so it depends on whether you are going for small untanked targets which you will want a tempest for or large tanked targets which the geddeon is probably better

Edited by: Rod Blaine on 24/10/2005 21:11:32 For the purpose of realism and versatility, the tachgeddon and 425mm railathron are the best damage dealers with a large range spread.
The megathron is more favourable because of its damage types and longer optimal and falloff.
If short range is not a problem, then megapulses and a geddon work best since a pure gank neutronblaster megathron is extremely hard to fit and use decently.
edit: in pvp reality tho, in anything but gank situations, the picture is changed by slot layouts. for example, autocannon tempest are mroe favoured then blasterthrons, even when they do less dps, they get a mroe versatile slot layout allowing ecm support or otherwise neat stuff. _______________________________________________

So, basically an Arma with 7x MP2 and 8 HS2 with better then Apoc with lets say 8x MP2 and 7 HS2. So, the RoF bonus on Arma is better then an extra turret (considering maxed skills for both BS and gunnery). ------------------------------------------------

thats a big yes even assuming a linear dps calculation 7 turrets x 1.25 rof bonus = 8.75 turrets on the geddeon instead of 8 on the apoc at least i think thats how it works then you add in the extra low slot for a heatsink and the geddeon is head and shoulders above the apoc for raw dps

Your setups: * Apoc: 935.9 dps * Geddon: 1198.9 dps (28.1% more)
With 4 damage mods: * Apoc: 690.4 dps * Geddon: 805.5 dps (16.667% more, same from 0-7 heatsinks for both ships)
With max skills, the rof bonus already gives you 16.667% more damage than the extra turret. The extra heatsink is just adding even more dps.

It's close to that, but not exactly. Rather, 7/(1-0.25) = 9.333 turrets. 9.333/8=16.667% damage advantage.

my calculated dps on my current apoc is 605, only using 4 sinkII and my l beam skill is only 4. i get wreking hits around 1400 often.
though it boils down to: do you want to use ammo? no ammo? wait for missiles to hit? biggest initial hits? best DoT? dps?
each ship has its admirable traits. pick and choose for those, not just because " oo its dps is so leet blah blah "

With 8x Cormack's Modified Mag Stabs and 7x Neutron Blaster II's it does 1621 dmg/sec.
With plain old Mag Stab II's it does 1312 dmg/sec.

of course if your even doing 1312dmg/sec and person has 80% or more to your dmg types your only going to be hitting around 262dmg/sec so a ganked bs isnt going to do much aganist a tanked bs :P
