If a cop jumps a criminal and the criminals buddy attacks the cop, dont you think that backup would help the cop?
Now before anyone jumps to any assumptions, im a pirate myself and I can relate.

Its totally unfair theres harsh conquences to me ganking noobs all day. Whine whine whine
Then in other forums you see the same poeple telling the whining noob they blew up to shad up and stop whining its the game.

Becoming a prirate is a consious choice that you should make only after carefully considering the consequences. Just being a mining carebear has it's own set of perscribed outcomes. Having made your choice; pvp, pve or pvroid{or some combonation there of}. CCP was kind enough to provide a way for us as players to change our primary focus in skills a training without ever having to start over or make a new character. They even gave the priates an out if they dicided to {heaven forbid} go back to being legit. 
For those of you that are priates or thinking about going that way accept the costs.

Pirating is way to easy. It still needs to be made harder. Especialy people sniping at gates that hit everything. As well those with alts boosting there snipers. Pirates who actually try to ransom or get loot the old ways (Belt pirating/0.0 pirating) have more of a difficult job to do, because people can fight back. However, a lot of the aspects today the pirate is untouchable. This stuff about how pirates are getting harder to practice there trade is really laughable. Before compact ship changes I could agree. You have to live by a alt to train up for the ship you fly in. Now, people are brining more ships into low security because they can actually haul a few of them in one load. Sentry gun wise, anyone can tank them. My Maller can tank them long enough to cap a hauler. Imagine what 5 Mallers could do or even 5 Prophecys with the new armor tanking systems comming in. Snipers well untouchable unless you try to plan a real op to get them out. If they have any common sense, they will just flee once they notice a covert-op alt and yes all covert-op alts are easy to assume in local. Which is the sad part on most anti-pirates.

To the original poster...this is precisely the point: you don't earn coolpoints with the law by defending criminals...you earn coolpoints by killing them. The system is not broken. The harsh boundary seperates the men from the boys in the pirate realm. Those who can take it allow themselves to fall below -5.
I guess those who can't start threads about how the system is broken.
Although I see what you are saying, when I bought the game, it said on the box that being a pirate was a viable career. To me, it seems that CCP is going back on that notion by making things insanely hard for pirates...
every tried the other side?

I have become a pirate type player or maybe a hybrid PvPer/pirate as I always go for the hard, fighting targets 1st if I can. I generally feel bad when popping a hauler or miner (though I still do it :))
I disagree that fellow pirates should be able to join in an attack on a corpmate as it's often the only way someone can get the low security pirate.
In my short piratey career so far I have only once fought a pirate that I never had to specifically hunt down and that was because they never knew I was a pirate (my sec status well above zero) and I was in a weaker ship. Whenever I have been in an equivalent ship and am obviously a pirate I have found it poor how ready a pirate is to search me out and fight me 1v1 (h3ll even if I'm outnumbered they don't search me out). I am always looking for them to fight.
So if what I have seen is typical then they should definetely not be allowed to help out withouth sentry retaliation as it is often the only way to get at them for a 1 on 1 fight. And they deserve to be shot without mercy more than most (me included).
However don't bring a big gank squad and expect to get a fight. Us pirates generally know our home systems well, have them well bookmarked and you will have a real tough time getting us.
All the more reason to disagree with the posters request.
