Hello all!
just got done training for tactical shield manipulation IV, so now I can use the adaptive invulnerability tech 2..
But anyway... I am looking at the different resistances, with the adaptive invu, and a damage control tech 2, and it doesnt seem to add up...
the adaptive should give a 30% resist and the damage control should give a 13% shield resist to everything, which between the 2, they should give a 43% resist...
the caracal doesn't have any EM resist by default on the shield, so its all coming from the modules, and when they are on, I am only getting 38.75% EM resist..
I am wondering where the other 4% resist is? Why doesn't it add up to what it should? What am I doing wrong with my math?
Thanks :) |

I think the real question is why don't you fit 4 Invulns for 120% resistance and get healed 20% by every shot taken? |

Most modules that provide a bonus to an attribute have a penalty if more than one is fitted. Each time you boost your resistance or a similar attribute, the boost is lessened. |

as far as i understand, it's x% of the remaining resist hole, where x is the bonus from the module/whatever. Ice Mining Skill Plan. |

The first module's (Damage Control 2) resistance is 12.5% The second module's (Inv. Field 2) resistance bonus is (100%-12.5%)*30%=26.25%
12.5%+26.25%=38.75% |

Adding resistances is multiplicative, not additive.
Also keep in mind that most resistance (and damage enhancement!) modules have a stacking penalty for each module that affects the same stat (Damage Controls being the exception to this).
The first module will apply 100% of its bonus... the second 87%... the third 50-something %... the fourth 20-something %... etc. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Learn it, Know it, Live it I don't always fit 8 low-slots with the same module, but when I do, I also use 3 stacking penalised rigs.
I mean, how else are you gonna get 11 modules with the same bonus? (Yeah yeah, do the same with midslots. Still...)

To make it perfectly clear, the damage control module is exempt from stacking penalties on resists from other modules.
The stacking penalties would apply if you were activating additional hardeners for instance.
The part that seems missing in your case is due to the fact that the resists, with no stacking penalties, apply on the remaining em resist hole, after the damage control.
There is a general misunderstanding of percentages that the video game culture does not help to clarify.
Then we all end up with trillions dollars debt for collectively neglecting basic maths.
My 2 percents.
