Well, I'm watching a character that's less than a day old, flying an indy and stealing ore from miners in a high-sec system, and I'm thinking "oh how I wish there was some way to find out who's alt that is."
Why isn't there? Make a new line of research, like "transaction tracking" or "character background check", which enables playes to find out about whom a character has been dealing with. Make it a bit slow and maybe somewhat expensive, but wouldn't it be nice if people could finally find out _where_ a stolen item finally ends up at? Especially when thieves too chicken to show their real name hide behind the aninomity of a free trial alt. It would an in-game solution to an exploit of how MMOGs work (well, maybe just a partial solution, but at least a step in the right direction).
This would also help when trying to decide whether one wants to take a character into a corp or not: A shady past would really get revealed.

stupid idea
all that alts and main have in common is that they run on the same account, if they are 2 totally different characters you shouldn't interfere with that

I LOVE the idea (thanks btw for my daily "bump the anti-alt thread"), just a question:

which means you would allow such a research to work on secondary accounts aswell, not just for alts on the same account? I'd love to see it, but I can't help thinking this won't happen... and if it doesn't, then the "trial-alts" are still free to **** me off :/

And to add. Where I work, every item worth a certain ammount is tagged and inventoried. If an item were to show up at a pawn shop or someone elses garage. It could be identified as ours. Make it so a corporate asset cannot be traded or sold to anyone not in the corp. If a player leaves the corp and docks at a station, tagged items are removed from their possesion and held for retrieval by its rightful owner. Obviously things like ammo and trivial things would not fall into this catagory.
This would not keep the individual from traveling a painful distance to dock. nor would it keep them from destroying the items. It would keep them from profiting from it.
personally our corp does not give people access to valuables. If members need somthing we arrange for them to get it. If we review an application and do not agree if they are on the up and up, we do not accept them.
The Destruction of your ship is usually preceeded by the thought,"I think I will try somthing a little different this time...." |

Some of you seem to have misunderstood my suggestion.
I'm not suggesting you can find out who is who's alt. I'm suggesting you can find out who has given money and equipment to whom.
So if you have a pirate alt, there's no way to use this new feature to connect that alt to your main, UNLESS your main has given aid to that pirate. In which case they're not two disconnected characters, but have a business relation, which leaves a trail.
