Thats because everyone has different opinions, if you where to ask me I would say Wolf, but alot of ppl say that wolf sucks and that Enyo pwns all.
What ships are you flying now? If your flying caldari I would recommend that you get a Harpy. I have a friend that only fly Hawk(thats the other caldari AF right?) and it seems to work out great for him.
Basicly, look at their stats. Compare to how you fight now and what style you like, then find a ship that supports you fighting style.
Vague answer but the question is basicly impossible to answer. -------------------------

The harpy's a tight little ship. I took on a retribution and a merlin at the same time a while back and came out on top. (Active EM hardener ftw!)
Wish I could say the same for the hawk, but... :P -Wrayeth

Ishkur sucks! Whatever AF you train to fly, forget about the Ishkur

kinda depends on what u want to do with it.
are u talking pvp or pve? if ure doing pve then you know what damage types u will be facing, get the assult frig with natural resistances to the rats. i have both gal ones for my serp missions, and both amarr ones for the angel missions i get thrown at. the more expensive af's tend to have the edge in tanking. they have just a little more fitting ability which can make a lot of difference.
but at the end of the day u gotta get the right ship for you and your job.
give us some ideas what u want to do in ure af and we can help u get the right one Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

Vagabond is the best HAC in terms of mobility vs damage and tanking. Sure, the Deimos might out "gank" it, but who cares when the deimos can go about 1.5km/s and the vagabond can go 5km/s?

if you are not for PvP the retribution is good for u, best tanker and great for PvE or even 0.0 belt ratting
i would not advize anything with less than 3 mid's for pvp

To answer the question of your post: How long is a piece of string?
Each of them have specific roles and should be able to excel in that role. If you want an AF to hide your disadvantages, I'm quite sure you'll come a cropper quite soon.
Assault Frigates, like every other ship in EVE, are only as good as your skills. There's no point owning a Wolf and not trainig for tech II Arties/ACs for example.
That's like buying a Ferrari and only using normal Unleaded instead of Super Unleaded.
Just get the one for which you already have frigates, train your skills and enjoy.

I'm too tired to read what everyone else posted, but would depend entirely on what you wanted to use it for, and skills you already have.
I only have experience with the Ishkur and Enyo. The former being fun for solo pvp, can take out the odd cruiser and other elite frigs.
The enyo (in my experience) seems to be the better npc'er. Can fit a better tank and does better damage.
For solo pvp, the enyo lags behind the ishkur a bit because of the two mid-slots.
You need an afterburner, you need a scrambler. But if your fighting other frigs/some cruisers you'll need a web to hold them in place.
For group pvp the enyo is great, have someone else hold them in place, and you can do some pretty awesome damage. I've only tried a rail setup which did do some nice damage, but I've read blaster setups work well for group pvp, though I've never tried it myself.
I know some people who fly 'butions. I've seen one tank a dual BS spawn in 0.0 indefinatly, with great ease, also. Not to mention it could do good enough damage at the same time, to break the BS' tanks.
They can do decent damage and a good tank at the same time. Or you could go for an uber damage setup.
Others will tell you that other AFs are better, and tell you that a certain one is crap. I don't think any of them are 'bad', just they all have their own role, and if your not using them for that role then your doomed to hate it :s
I mean loads of people hate the ishkur, I think it's a nice ship (though prefer my enyo), ok, I have loads to say, I'm tired, I'm ranting. I'm stopping.
Bye now...

The Retribution is, IMO, "comfortably above-average". It's a good solid ship with a few little problems (lack of mids specifically) that prevent it from being outstanding. I like it that way. It has character, and almost as importantly it makes it pretty much nerf-proof :)
