Edited by: Achnoid on 25/10/2005 17:47:47 Edited by: Achnoid on 25/10/2005 17:46:30 I just got the latest pcGamer and saw the pictures at quake and oblivion. From the pictures i did not think that q4 had that much to come with, in graphic way that is, while oblivon has omghax graphics. Fear also has nice graphics (almost like quake) and small girls covered in blood always gets me a bit unsecure . So, being a minor without a steady income sucks as you can't buy the games you want at the same time (and i preferably don't want to steal my **** )
So, which game first and second, depending on ness and releasedates, should i buy?
Check the websites out and say what you think

Oblivion, looks good.
i played f.e.a.r, looks like a copy and paste of anotehr game i played all ready,
i let my friend borrow it all ready, as i had no intentions of finishig the game.
Quake 4, hmm, if they add cars to the game i ll think about it, there is no point bringing more 1st person shooters jsut for the sake of better graphics. its not fun at all.
if the game play has changed, that why should we buy it we dont know if its as good as the first quake,,, and back in the days there was few games like quake to compete, now there is jsut too many, i ll stick to bf2 for 1st person shooter.

I've played FEAR, its a solid shooter. I loved it. This game has awesome firefights, A.I is also rather good. To bad I guessed the plot twist about 25% in to the game.
Quake 4 looks interesting, I liked Quake 2 and I will buy this one because I like the whole cyborg environment.
Now Oblivion, if its even half as big as morrowind I'll buy it. Problem is that like Morrowind I will probably not finish it -------------------------

That shot of the knight in shining armor on horse back just screams for being my next rpg purchase. And I rarely play FPSs these days, so wont bother with the others.

FEAR and Oblivion are definatly awesome games, Quake 4 might be awesome or it could fall flat on its face.

I take it you've not played Elder Scrolls before? It's a totally different play style to the other two. And, if you've got the right personality, you can become immersed far beyond anything remotely sensible.
So if you want a bit of open-ended, jaw-dropping, sleepless gaming - Oblivion.

If you want a single player FPS get FEAR, if you want a multiplayer FPS get Q4, if you want an RPG get Oblivion.

I just got Morrowind a month or two ago, and OMG it's frelling amazing!!!!
It's completely taken me away from Eve, the first game to do that. I'm having a ton of fun and I'm not even halfway through. It's the first non-MMOG since Civ II that has made me say, "What's the horrible glare on my monitor? Oh, ****! it's the sun."

Edited by: Plim on 27/10/2005 02:17:19 I bought FEAR today and it is great, but Oblivion looks absolutely amazing.
X3 reunion comes out in a day or so too, which should be good. -----------------

I've armed my younger brother with ú30 in HMV gift vouchers and the clear instructions that he's to come home with X3: Reunion for me tomorrow or not at all I'm very much looking forward to getting my hands on it and seeing if they've brough the X Universe as far as I hope they have.
At the same time, I very much want to get FEAR as well, the demo was a lot of fun and the real thing looks brilliant. Quake IV doesn't do much for me really...it looks lovely and I expect that it will be a huge online hit (does it have multiplayer?), though if I want FPS online action, I still have UT & UT2k4. The other big games of the year for me are Prince of Persia III coming out on XBox, unfortunately at about the same time as the other big one...Oblivion. If Bethesda's last games are anything to go by, and with the anticipation on ESIV almost as much as HL2, I expect Oblivion to be an amazing game. Even if it's *as good as* Morrowind, albeit bigger, shinier and more up to date, it will be worth it's price tag.
As if all that gaming goodness wasn't enough, next year with luck I'll have Neverwinter Nights II to look forward to, along with Jade Empire II and Dragon Age from BioWare and Hitman IV: Bloodmoney from Eidos. There's a massive Guild Wars expansion out in Spring I believe as well...so looks like my BFG 7800GTX arrived just in time! -------------

Finished FEAR last friday and did Quake 4 today.
Comparing the two I must say that FEAR was the better game (not saying that Quake was bad because I really liked it aswell). The thing that I didnt like about FEAR, was the lack of interesting environments, those hallways gets old quick.
Quake is Quake, not much to add really. It plays and feels like Quake 2, which is good considering its a follow-up to it. Annoying parts are the "shoot the incomming planes/robots from the back of a truck" levels, never liked that in any game. Oh yeah, Quake gets some extra points for having more interesting enemies even though the AI isnt as good as FEARs.
So to sum it up: Do you like shooters? Get FEAR. Do you like shooters and Quake 2? Get Quake 4.
Every magazine I've read has compared FEAR to those cheesy (IMO) japaneese horror movies. Well they are right. I would then like to add that Quake is more like a Sci-fi splatter movie, puking zombies and mutilated bodies strapped up to machines (lovely ). -------------------------

Tbh the graphics in FEAR arent that amazing, however Quake 4 ones are much better.
Also I find Quake4 much more "fun" to play, run shoot etc. FEAR is more tactical rather then run and shoot.
