Whats the point in getting one unless your in a huge alliance who sells battleships or builds outposts or somthing?
A single hauler would never fill its hold on a single trade run, so is there any point in a single hauler buying one?

From a merc's POV they are pretty handy for moving the forward base of operations around for contracts.
Plus, you can deliver anything in one run instead of running back and forth with a regular hauler. I'd call that a luxury.

I have found the freighter to be a very useful tool in production. I have the Fenrir, so with its 123ms top speed is not much slower than a bs. It has enabled me to make a single station of operation, which through a few missions I have gained a great refinary rate.
I then can take all of my ships, equipment etc to areas to mine in one go. Once finished I bring all of the ore back to my main area to refine to gain my preferential rates.
Lastly I can now build any ship and move it to the best market area regardless of my ability to fly it.
It is pointless at trade runs as I can make more with my transport ship. But they were never meant for trades.
They are a luxury, and do cost huge amounts, though I mined for mine which saved costs. However, it has made my life a lot easier (and more profitable) and have earned a few isk moving peoples kit as well.

Ever tried relocating your armada? I'd rather do it in a freighter ones instead of 5 times or more running back and forth.
Also, the sheer volumes you need in productions. I needed to move enough for an Apoc merely one jump out and even that was a pain cause of lack of superior expanders.
