Quick question...
If I'm in 0.1-0.4, do I lose sec status for aggressing and firing on someone first irrespective of the final outcome, or only if I destroy their ship or pod them?
Thx

Yes, you lose sec for aggressing.
0.5% for aggro 2.0% for ship kill 12.5% for podkill

Ok... thanks for that. Here's another one...
If a player I come across has aggressed someone else unconnected to me or my corp, and is flashing red, and I then take an unprovoked shot at them... will I lose sec status?
I'm being accused of aggressing someone in 0.4 but they're -1.2 sec status and I have no sec hit in my logs. They may or may not have been flashing red at the time.
I can't remember what happened exactly and am trying to figure it all out.

No.
You can shoot at people who are aggro'd without sec loss.
If there is no entry in your logs then you did nothing wrong.

2% of what? You mean a -2.0, or ?

the percentages are worked on the difference between your current security status and +10.

That doesnt really make sense.
So you are saying that a player with a 0.0 sec status loses 1.25 sec status for a podkill. A player with 5.0 status only loses 0.65 sec status, and a player with 10.0 sec status (damn near impossible I know) loses nothing?
I really don't think that can be correct.

Deja Thoris made a good post explaining security hits, but yes, that is how it works.
The url for the thread escapes atm, but hopefully Deja will pop in on this thread to my rescue.

Are you sure about that? Isn't it the difference between you current sec status and the maximum in the direction your sec status is moving? (-10 for sec hits and +10 for sec gains)
Anything else would be rather silly.

Yup, my mistake, it was worked out against -10.
Found the thread here.
