I've just been reading about the Battle of the Atlantic this week and came across the Q-Ship. Basically in Eve it might work like this. You see an Indy come floating past, it looks like an Indy, smells like an Indy, even feels like and Indy (Even down to having a rectangular marker rather then a square). Only if you mess with this baby, you find a nasty Cruiser waiting to spank you. Obviously it won't have the cargo capacity of an Indy, the space being taken up with weapons turrets, armour and shield generators. This is simply a warship pretending to be something more helpless

Been posted here over and over again, under the same name.
It exists in pretty much its full form already--we have ships like the badger mk2 that can easily jam and lock down a battleship, and deep space transports that can tank like a souped-up HAC. However we have no high-damage indies. Which IMO makes some sense... - Proud member of the [23].

I'm not surprised it's been meantioned alot before. It's a simple concept that has been done in nearly every sci-fi show I've ever seen.
One idea would be to create Drone Bays that could be used in Indys. The would take up cargo space and replace it with drone bay space. Then any industrial ship could carry it's own protection in it. Someone attacks it and the drones are released.
However, I have noticed that this game is meant to be a team co-op game. Things run smoother if you work as a team. Sure, you can't make quite as much money paying for a body guard as you could by just making the trip yourself, but that is the way this game is designed. You either do high-risk for high pay (make a cargo run on your own) or low pay for low risk.
That's life in the universe of Eve.

I've seen this done with a dominix battleship - the pilot fit one miner II on, some nos, and launched a swarm of mining drones at a rock. He waited for a pirate to show up and attack, warp scrambled him, webbed him, nossed him, pulled in his mining drones and launched heavy drones, and turned the tables. -Wrayeth

Same can be done with for an example a Scythe... friend of mine kitted it out to take out this annoying 'ceptor pilot that would harass lone miners. Pirates tend to be a bit too quick to attack anything that looks remotely harmless.. it doesn't have to be an indy.

I think the idea is a good one but I am not sure how practicle it will be to bring it into the game. it would be quite fun to have a pirate attack a transport or barge only to find it turn ito a warship and give them a hiding. It has been mentioned often but I have not seen a responce from the Dev's on this.

Because of how ship classification works (right click show info, long range scanners) the true name of the ship (Q-Boat) would show up as obvious to the pirate. Setting your ship's name to 'Iteron' will not do a single thing when pirates do multiple long-range scans to determain true shiptype before engaging and the trap will be obvious.
Use the existing ships.
