Edited by: Delana Mosalaine on 27/10/2005 05:13:45 Concord will never attack you, unless you're in ca concord system and it's a concord convoy. Convoys leaving a station will result in sentrys shooting at you. Convoys aproaching a station, well, most of the time not but sometimes you will also be shot at. There's no way to know when a sentry will not shoot at you.
As for the loot, it isn't that great but it's easy money if you want to risk a ship.

I think if you change the stations owner personal standing from neutral to either -10.0 or 10.0 you should be able to tell if you can shoot or not.
The trick is to not have the station and convoy owner to be one and the same. I have shot them 30km away from sentry guns, aslong as the ownership doesn't match you're fine.

Where can you see who's the owner of the convoy?
That's something i can't find, but i'm good at missing those kind of things

You can...
Click on the station in question. The one the convoys are either approaching or leaving from.
Click on the standings tab, set standings for the corp(station) to +10/-10.
Close tab and set your overview settings overlay, thingy on the right, to show standing +10/-10.
You will get a symbol(can't remeber which) next to the convoy (like gang/corpmate) if that convoy is "owned/related" to that station.
If it has the symbol, you'll take a corp faction hit and most likey get shot by sentrys.
If it doesn't have symbol, its not that stations convoy, and you may or may not get shot by station sentrys.
A little know fact about this.. Corps have "allied" corps. You can check under the webpage to see who likes who for the major corps (and who doesn't). This is the main reason of the conflicting reports, "I got ganked, and it wasn't thier convoy.." statments.
I used this in great length early in my career and looted thousands of harvestor drones, back in the day they dropped. I don't know if convoys are carring anything anymore, the scanner was borked the last time i scanned one, and haven't tried since...

I found that if the convoy ships themeselves are 75km from the station the sentries to not interfere.

before i give a few simple tips, realize that every time you shoot at a convoy you will lose faction with the owning corp. And for a short time will be flagged to them (and their guns).
1) use your ability to change standings to show positive or negative status (unless this has changed). reason evident in step 4 2) get a cheap ship and a cargo scanner 3) any outgoing convoy you can be 75k from a sentry and be safe. DO not enter inside that range after you shoot 4) any incoming freighter is fair game no matter what distance IF it does not belong to the same corp as the local station (thus the use of the standings tool) 5) the freighters do shoot at you, barely but an unarmored ship or inattentive pilot of a small ship will find they get the occasional hit 6) i reiterate use a cheap ship and setup, you will make a mistake sooner or later and lose your ship 7) convoys from stations often vary on their contents but its not random, keep scanning them but you get an idea of what they ship based on what the corp makes/sells so you can target specific corps
and remember you lose a lot of corp faction doing this so either find a way to make it up with missions or sooner or later you will be automatically targeted by a corps sentries
no go be a nice little hijacker :)

well prior to exodus patch i had found some nice fruitful supplies, including an alternative source of superconductors despite the thought there was one drop. There are other useful things that dropped. I have not been out scanning so i have no way of knowing if anything useful has been added to the loot drops of these items. They were temporarily stopped because they dropped items that should only be gotten from a complex. someone took the time to rework the loot tables for them, so i'd have hoped they actually put something nice in there again. I dont know.
