I wake up this morning, yawn, stretch, and fire up the monitor to get a quick look at how my AFK mining went for the night.
"Oh look" says I, "I've got an evemail!" *click mail button* "Now why would CONCORD be mailing..... HEY! WHERE THE @#$% IS MY SHIP?!?!?!"
Ok, so I was floating in an egg. According to CONCORD the Culprit was a noname called Number One, member of M3G4 corp with a -9.9 sec rating and a paltry 500k bounty on his ass.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not ****ed. Indy's are cheap enough to build, clones are even cheaper, though I see he wasn't able to quite get that far. Out of respect, I have added 300k bounty to his head so he can at least gain a little recognition at the bottom of the most wanted list. I've snuffed a couple of ore theives in 1.0 space before, so I know this type of thing can be done and gotten away with, but you've really got to have some nuts to come into 1.0 space with that sort of rating and blow up someone's ship.
My hat is off... revealing a head of singed hair.
Pretty Ballsey for a pirate.

Number One is making a bit of a speciality of it from what I hear.
Some people complaining that he has found an exploit and that is why he is able to move round 1.0 space relatively unimpeded.
Not sure if this is tru or not!

Eh carebear crap is all that is. I beleive I saw somewhere that they were allowing people with negative ratings back into empire space without getting shot at all the time.

The only time I've seen him, he was using MWD, and could easily evade sentry guns etc. No magic involved. ;p

People with a -9.9 security rating don't take any more sec hits when shipkilling/player killing so their actions no longer arouse the attentions of CONCORD.
That's what I've heard anyway.
Sounds like an exploit to me.

Actually, I've been hearing the same thing. It does appear to be an exploit, or a bug at the very least. I'm going to have to take back my comment about him being ballsey.

yes, it's a bug. yes, it's an exploit now, since as soon as you do it more than once you're deliberately taking advantage of it, and his ass should be banned (but almost certainly won't be). However, after reading
> how my AFK mining went for the night.
i was tempted to shoot you myself.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

And you're welcome to try. If I'm going to be AFK mining and you think you can get away with it, blow my ass up and hope we don't meet in low sec space when I've got a real ship.

ive got to admit, that this does seem to be an exploit of some sorts, however so is awk mining if you ask me. as not all players have the abilityto leave there computers running all day, (like me -56k modem on a 2 hour time limit), so if you are not there, you should not ***** abpout being destroyed, a memeber of my corp had this happen to them, and i said the same thing, DONT ***** if your killed AFK. because after all, if you look at it, it is an exploit to profit from NOT ACTUALLY being there to play the game.
just my private view on the matter, i welcome all replys about how wrong i am. thanks for your time

Molly has admitted to using this exploit several times.
Has anything been done?
No.
I doubt she is the only one either.

Now see, I dont see afk mining an exploit at all, just because not everyone can do something, doesnt make it an exploit. Essentially you are saying that the people who work/school during the day are exploiting if they afk mine at night to keep up with the kids that dont have crap to do all day are exploiting. I thinks thats breaking even. Also, what is harmfull about one indy load of scord (which takes about 3 hours to mine anyways). Nah, not en exploit. Now if you were running macros all night, then that perhaps crosses the line. Now to stay on topic a little bit, afk does leave yuorself open to attack. Even if you are in 1.0 sectors. I think that is the gamble of the afker. Most of whom are willing to take. If Number One finds means to kill in 1.0 space so be it, as long as its not an exploit. To think about it in another way, its pretty realistic. I have read the paper that reports a man being beat up one block from a poice station. Something like that could be carried over to this game.

Edited by: Gravefiller on 07/08/2003 20:41:27 3 hours ... how big is your cargo space ? I mine a cargo container full in 50 min ..... (27000 cargo space) with my BS.
So i think a indy with lets say a max of 10k (6k orso with no expended's and skills) space will do a litle damage to the roids.

Edited by: Couch Monkey on 07/08/2003 20:27:34 Not sure what you consider afk mining. But with us its parking an indy out in space and letting it mine.
I have a Bestower which hold increases 5% each lvl. Right now with modifications, It is at 7272 m3. Also you have one mining laser with an Indy so that adds to the time.

Edited by: Jiere LaFortune on 07/08/2003 22:34:49 Who's *****ing? I was certainly not *****ing... in fact I was rather impressed until I found out that you actually have to blow up someone's ship to get CONCORD after you if you've already got a -9.9 rating.
Even so, all is fair in love and war, if you can do it, so be it... until they decide to change the rules again.

please forgive me if i don't believe a word a dirty PK'ing pirate of M3g4 Corp tells me... although even if you are using an exploit and we had hard evidence, CONCORD would do s0d all since they are bent as the soviet sickle.

Well said, the point is that ppl with a - rating should not be able to roam freely in high sec space. Newbies will be getting killed all the time, ppl will leave. NO GAME.
These ppl are prats, what can you you get out of destroying a indy???. a miner 1, woooopeeeee. they arnt looking at the bigger picture.

fix to this shoudlnt be stopping them from blowing up the afk miners i dont think since they are basicaly helpless as is. fix should be not letting them jump out of 1.0 space with a -9.9 to -8.0 security rating. not many pirates would want to pick off a few easy people when they cant leave the system for couple weeks. but it still lets you if you really really awnt too.

"Eh carebear crap is all that is..."
No, YOU are the one that is full of crap.
There is an exploit where if someone has a -10 rating the cops will not attack. That sucks, and Tank CEO, Moo, and M3G4 have been exploiting this to the max.
IMO, anyone that used that exploit should be BANNED.

This is a doucumented Bug/Exploit.
File a petition (exploit) on this and take copy/paste the concord email into the discription field.
Several GMs are currently following this and seeing how may players are doing this, and yes bannings will follow.
From the last mailing I got they are taking this very seriously but are waiting to get all involved or using this exploit. They need names and details, so if you even see a -9.9/-10.0 sitting (not running) in high sec space take a screen shout and turn it in.

Nah they shouldn't be banned for it. It';s not their fault, it's the devs who didn't fix the bug. This isn't like dropping 500 cans to cause lag or whatever. If they blow someone up the cops still come and it takes some skill. I think the two of you need to calm down.

It is a KNOWN exploit. The EULA specifically states that anyone using an exploit is subject to being banned. End of story.

Everyone who keeps crying this is an exploit is an idiot.
Someone is able to shoot you afk mining arse in 1.0 and to tun away from the cops, must be an exploit.
Could be also a dumb afk miner or autopilot trader.
Joshua especially is a ***** repeating this bull**** everywhere at all occasions. GMs know that you can also destroy people in 1.0 and they even wished me luck trying so.
1.0 does not stand for 100% safety, there is no such thing in EVE. Wake up. ---

Edited by: Cruise on 10/08/2003 04:09:11 Hmmm...I've read post after post of angry players stating -10 sec pirates are jumping noobs at jump gates in 1.0 sec areas. Must be a whole LOT of 'liars' out there if it's not an exploit...one that the GM's are already aware of and acknowledging, btw.
It's skank to abuse that known exploit, knowing fully well if you pulled such a stunt in a 1.0 as say a -2.5 you'd have CONCORD hand your ass to you in a paper bag.

i appologise if i came accross saying that you were *****ing (which i did, not intentionally) what i meant was for all the people who do start crying when they r killed awk, (trading mining, etc) but the worse culprits are those that practice ninja mining in -0.0 space and cry when they r killed from a CTD bug (which does suck - i lost 3 frigates that way in the first weeks after release) the basic fix is dont do anything afk, especially mining, i fill my bestower in about 1-2 (boring) hours, if you must mine for this extra few hundred thousand isk, may i suggest you set a auto shut down or somthing on your computer after 'x' ammount of time? because as far as i can work out you vanish from space 2 mins after logging off eve, this could fix your problems. ***** over, and sorry if i went off subject a bit, in this and my earlier post.
