Yep, they can be used. Though someone else will have to answer as to how exactly one goes about using them.

they can be used, or could.
Archeology and Hacking, are both borked atm, I was told they were to be fiexed last week... but im still waiting.
Prolly took a back seat for that solid state disk thing.

need Electronic Upgrades 5 for the hacking module, costs about ~100k I think. You just lock what you want to hack, start running the tool, least thats what I did.

need Survey 5, other then that no clue how it works, if you have survey 5 im gonna laugh at you dude 
Edit: Oh and there both mid slot modules too btw.

I also have Archaeolgy 3, and the module mounted, but I haven't worked with it enuff to explain the details. maybe by this time next week.
I just wanted the opportunity to allow some laughter.

Hacking works in COSMOS only, I think.
No idea about archaeology. You'd think that it would run on any sort of ruin or debris field, but since it was introduced with COSMOS, it'll probably work there only, too.

Lets you access data towers and stuff like that, retrieving COSMOS items required to finish COSMOS missions and/or produce things from COSMOS BPCs.

AFAIK the archaeology process is the same as the hacking one, except you retrieve a different item. You lock the spawn container in your COSMOS area, activate the module and eventually it finds your items which you can take.
You need certain talocan/sleeper parts and angel/gurista parts to make some of the items you get as rewards from COSMOS agents.

umm... What is a COSMOS area, or mission?
I see some COSMOS corps but they look like player corps, and have no agents?

survey also helps 5%/lvl with scanner speeds
