Edited by: Vorhal Picard on 29/10/2005 05:29:06 Heya!
Just came back to eve, still being a new pilot in terms of PvP, I am wondering if there are any viable setups for the Thorax that would use laser turrets(been a fan of those since The Next Generation).
And if there is, would it work in PvE too?
Thanks. ª¼)

Next generation as in Captain Picard (Who was obviously a superior officer when compared to Kirk)?

On the other hand though a completely unexpected setup could throw an opponent in pvp so it may end up working out ok.
for pve though i think you'd just be making things hard for yourself, especially if you're doing pve in gallente space against serpentis who are more vulnerable to hybrid weapons with their kinetic and thermal damage iirc.

If you do it, I wouldn't put anything besides Small turrets on it, or your cap will vaporize like water on the Sun.

The best setup for the thorax involves lasers - small ones.

i personally fly my rax with medium hybrid turrets but i think im the only one. a lot of people setup a platerax that uses small hybrids. correct me if im wrong but that setup wont get you the ships damage bonus. so you are losing no more than these chaps by putting lasers or indeed projectiles on it.
i was recently attacked by a rax firing what sounded to me like autocannons. the only thing to look at is cap usage and fitting costs really

The reason for that is usually the 1600mm plate and that small weapons track so much better than medium, that they get many more wrecking hits and almost do the damage the mediums (with bonus) would do.

having tested this thoroughly i can report that in a rax with medium guns i do far more damage than a rax with small guns ... not just due to the bonus but due to the bigger base damage as well
tested with and without damage mods the medium blasters out perform the small blasters
which is why i fly the rax setup i do
max damage rax vs plate rax is still too close to call

For equal skills, not accounting tracking, med electrons with cruiser 5 do 45.8333% more damage than small neutrons (34.1667% with cruiser 3 or 40% with cruiser 4). Med ions have a 7.14% damage edge on med electrons (not accounting reloading), so they aren't really worth fitting for the extra damage but have a range advantage.
The tracking of med blaster is significantly lower than the tracking of small blasters, though, and this can be a problem against smaller targets.
