Hi .
It will be good to have less detailled graphics on Laptop , i mean no special effect etc. I have here a Toshiba A10 whith 512Mb Ram , and run Eve actually at 13 to 15 fps !! To have this FPS i have to deactivate z-buffer , ditter and LOD. Will be better to have a ''cartoon'' style rendering wo dont take alot of resources. I dont know if that is alot of work for CCP to add option for make this possible.
The isk be whith you :)

Edited by: Sevarus James on 01/11/2005 06:38:13 I'm looking at a10 specs on the web, and I see a ton of 'variation' on A10. If your video is the following: manufacturer : Intel« type : 852GM memory : 16-64 MB memory type : DDR-RAM (UMA)
I'd say problems could (key word) ensue.
If you have an ATI or nvidia mobile gpu, then possible newer drivers, or in a case I saw recently, a rollback to "older" drivers fixed eve issues. (radeon mobile).
Without knowing specifics on the video processor, kinda' hard to suss out problems or solutions.
personally I'm running compaq x1000 widescreen with 9200 ati mobility,32meg ram, and getting double your framerate. (that is a 1.5 year old laptop btw.)

Running fine on a HP NX8220 with 2Ghz Centrino, 1Gb RAM, and a ATI X600 mobility using standard HP drivers. Getting very good FPS in window and full screen modes too.

Check your graphics adapter. Is it made by Intel? Congratulations, your laptop was never meant to play games with decent 3D graphics. ----------

Eve on a laptop is possible, you just need to make sure you have a graphics chip that can actually play games
I have an ATi 9600m GPU with an AMD 64 3000 CPU.
I get 30-60fps in game (30fps with AA etc on) using the latest Cat drivers (and the cat patch to install them)

What really bothers me is that if I try to enter space EVE freezes after two three seconds, at which point ATI Drive info comes up to tell me that it had to restart the adapter to maintain stabiity of teh system. I reinstalled three times already :( LOL U IS PWNED |

Edited by: FreeMind on 12/11/2005 12:02:45 Have found the solution ... Close the laptop ... Buy a little ATI9550 and put them on my old P3 1ghz ... Work smooth. So long CCP dont devellop some option for the renderer like 'cartoon render' It will not be able for alot of us to play this game on Laptop and your Boss is happy
for respond to Sevarus : my a10 is a celeron M 2.4 whith 512Mb RAM and a crap Intel graphics card (64mb) The isk be whith you :)

Hmm, eve runs perfectly on my dell inspiron 5100, even with a mobility radeon 7500. I donŠt have changed any graphics quality settings.
No probs with low fps or stuttering. But i think eve needs much more cpu than gpu power, so maybe the chipset drivers may produce some problems when it comes to ram access on some notebooks?

Hi, runs smooth on my Fujitsu-Siemens Laptop (PIV 3Ghz, ATI 9600m). Only gets very hot.... A friend of mine had a similar probelm. Could play in the station but as soon as he entered space it crashed. What solved his problem (and also makes my eve also more stabel) is: -> ad line "advancedDevice=yes" in a certain file called prefs.ini (i am not shure anymore if that was the exacte name....). After you did this, you have more options in the in-game graphics menue. There you have to set "Interval = one" (I am not sure about the exact phrase either cause it's been a while and I am not in front of my laptop). There was a thread on the forum which described exactly this soltion. Maybe you find it....
cheers

Its because the a10's were NEVER designed to play games.
Period.
The intel "EXTREME" graphics cards are barely above software rendering. Also any shared video memory causes a massive compromise in graphic performance as the video card has no 'real' ram of its own' its fighting with your OS for what ram you have. The vid card simply gives limited functionality for games and minor graphics software. Until recently most toshiba laptops have been for buisness. Eg. It runs office, powerpoint, and mabey you watch video's. Thats it. However they look nice so its sort of a board room One up man ship, "My laptop looks nicer than yourse." but i'd digress. I get about 10 fps on my a10 laptop but luckily eve is playable with this level of FPS(i also have a full gig of ram under the hood too so adding more ram isn't going to help your situation so save your money). I wouldn't take it into PVP (my desktop is for that) but lets me get my fix set skills or run one of my alts without compramising my desktops speed. (Also i've noticed a 3 second difference when running my primary on my desktop and one of my alts on my lil' Chipper as i like to call it. That is to say, the laptop seems to lag behind for whatever reason. Could be a networking issue as the laptop is wireless and my desktop is cabled.)
Hate to say your screwed, but the only way to make things better is to get a better laptop. Preferably one of the gamer laptops.
Make sure it has a dedicated card. Or at the very least a name brand video card(ATI Gforce) that supports Dx9.+ and Hardware Transform and lighting. Currently Intel does neither(Don't been fooled by thier new PCI-E architecture in the latest line of IBM think'bricks' It still isn't designed for any level of gaming its more for 3d software like CAD and the like)
If you have the $$$ I'd recommend looking at the Acer laptops. They have several lines that offer some staggering performance. I'm getting one that has a x700 mobility card.(thats a dedicated pci-e graphics card in a laptop )

I bought a Gateway M500(P4 M 2.2Ghz), 512mb memory, NVIDIA GeForce4 Go440 32mb, running Win XP MCE. I've been in IT for a while and never thought Gateway was that great. I couldn't get Eve to even look half-way decent until I installed the DNA-force driver. Text was a mess and I could barely read it. Now I can read it, but in-space maneuvering is crappy. I think it's time for a new laptop.

I just got a new laptop, and playing eve was one of the things I made sure it could do. Didn't have a ton of cash, so I decided to build from a barebones kit.
Got a MSI MS-1029 AMD Tution MT-37 (2GHZ) 1GB OCZ DDR 400 Radeon x700 128 dedicated, 128 shared integrated wifi/bluetooth DVD-RW 60GB 5400 HDD
It was about 1100 USD sans OS. Eve runs great on it, as does almost any game out there today. Got 2500 in 3dmark 05 with stock clock speeds.

Edited by: Klintrup on 12/12/2005 07:40:07 Just logged on from my Lenovo (IBM) Thinkpad X41, and everything worked flawlessly, I even used a GPRS connection which didn't cause any grief whatsoever, except a few delays (around 5 seconds) when undocking, which I would call very acceptable.
Lenovo Thinkpad X41, Pentium M 1.5 GHz Low Voltage Intel Mobile 915GM Graphics Adapter 1.5 GB of System RAM Connection: GPRS connection with a 1+ second latency and 5 KB/sec downstream at max (had to try, working at a local telco :).
I must hand it to CCP, I'm very impressed with the low-latency, low-bandwidth dependent protocol, it's actually possible to play on a GPRS connection, which I havn't seen in any other MMORPG I've tried.

My new company gave me a brand new Compaq nx6120 - 1.73 Centrino with an Intel 915 video card and 512Mb RAM (they didn't asked my before th. To my surprise it handles Eve very well, didn't have any problems (yet). I think that actually this game doesn't require a very high end graphics card since usually you only see your own ship up close while the other ships are a long way away and therefore don't need as much processing power as say, a couple of Doom 3 monsters attacking you from 5 metres away. From what I gather, a lot of physics processing is done on the server which takes significant load off the client.

While I agree that dumbing down the graphics for low end laptops would be a good feature, I don't agree on the topic title. Eve works perfectly on a AMD64, 1GB Ram and Mobile ATI 9600 laptop. It also works perfectly on the new XPS gen 2 laptop from DELL.
Both laptops can even run 2 clients at the same time.

I have a Gateway 7422GX Processor: AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2Ghz Ram: 1Gb PC2700 HD: 80Gb 4200 RPM Video Card: Ati 96000 / 64Mb dedicated memory Resloution: 1280 X 800 I play will all my graphics set to use 4X Temporal AA, 8X AF, High Quality Texture Pref, and High Quality Mipmap Detail Level, with Vsync Off. Running Omega Drivers Catalyst Version 5.9
I get 60 Frames Average reguardless of whats going on in game except when i'm in dock then it hovers around 83. So Whoever says you can't play Eve on a laptop with Eye candy turned on at with good Fps is totaly wrong. and this Laptop is exactly a year old This Month. Newer laptops should should be ablr to outperform this by a good margin especially those folks running any of the Nvidia 6xxx or 7xxx Go series mobile GPU's.
