The level designers for it were obviously...er...none existant when they made it.
OMG!! Another grey room with [insert pipes/chairs/tables] everywhere.
Nice playability, smooth action sequences, lovely slo-mo.
Worth a play, but the awfully bland design of the game lets it down big style. ____________________________________________

I think it's done on purpose, because:
1/ If the level design were varied, it wouldn't look like a normal buildings, workplaces etc... on a normal city, and it would hurt the scenario.
2/ So much normality amplify the effect of paranormal things, when they happen.

The biggest thing that's impressed me about this game is the inteligence of the AI.. Running on easy mode (yeah, I'm a wimp), I've found myself struggling in several parts, and I consider myself good at single player FPS games.
The lack of complexity of the rooms hasn't been a problem for me, in fact it adds to the game as it's easy to get comfortable with the commonplace rooms which are, quite often, empty, so you arn't sure when you'll encounter an enemy or have one of the surprisingly startling 'spook' sequences creep up on you.
I still can't get used to the slow-mo! Several times I've gotten frustrated trying to get past a certain spot only to go 'Oh.. right... slow mo' and get through it easily.
The guns don't seem to be anything special (THe stake launcher is surprisingly worthless), but the basics of the game lend it to have same-old weapons anyway, so...

I like the way the rooms seem normal. Adds to the atmosphere.
They all look different after you've splattered them with blood, body parts and bullet casings. ____________________

Edited by: R31D on 05/11/2005 11:30:25 As I've got further through the game, the level design is still good, but the grey-ness has become less of an issue. It really does seem to get better as you go through (I'm halfway through 'LZ is Hot' atm). I also love the way they scare you through it. The sudden flash of a mutilated corpse doesn't do it for me, but that girl is damn freaky - especially the bit where you climb down that ladder and as you turn around she's at the top, and then when your at the bottom, there's that random guy. Made me waste a few pistol rounds
edit: are there at any point enemies ith stealth-suit type things? I saw this guy jump into some shallow water then I think he went transparent but distorting the light a tiny bit before dissapearing fully. Was this a stealth-suit type thing (I wasn't attacked at all) or am I just imagining things?

Those damn stealthed guys scared me. After killing the first I was expecting to find myself face-to-mask with one of them at every corner, in every small room... They don't really move like humans, and it's really easy to lose visual on them, the way they jump around and try to flank you.
As for the girl, I remember one encounter in particular: I was crawling in a conduit underground with my torch soon falling, and suddenly I see her jumping out of the darkness in front of me and sort of running on her feets and hands, like an evil monkey from Hell. Scary thing.

I cant play it anymore the Doc says its not good for either my heart or my underwear. Doesnt help that i only play it at night with the lights off and the headphones on. But come on its designed that way so why not take full advantage of its scares. As for the design it is designed that way as many before have said the blandness of the scenery makes you concentrate more on the environment as a whole 'da ambience'
Im going back to my corner now to rock a little more.

They appeared a few mins after posting this . fun, but not too hard to kill really. I'm really enjoying the game now but sometimes it can get really annoying, and some bits are really tough. And those big clones just won't die. Anyone got tactics for them other than using the penetrator and lobbing grenades?

That's about it until you get some 'heavier' weaponry.

I loved it at first but the enviorment gets boring after a while. Every building got the same chair, desk and filecabinet which gives you the feeling that the creators went for the cheap design.

its really fun when you get the plasma/railgun thing, i forgot what its called, but line up a few enemies and watch them fall with one shot, its great: D... on easy mode the game is **** easy, i just ran through the whole thing with the shotgun killing everyone, always have a ton of healthkits. The rocket launcher is useless btw : /
