Edited by: Jo Black on 01/11/2005 22:00:30 Greetings all, I need some help. Recently I decided to splash out on an ipod so ive been looking over which to buy for the last week and I just cant decide. I would like to use it for day to day use which involves college, daily train rides and skateboarding (alot).
I've been leaning towards the new 30GB 5th generation video ipod but am worried that the hard drive wont hold up whilst im skateboarding and that perhaps a nano would be more appropriate instead? So if anyone could tell me if the hard drive brakes easily (whith lots of jumping etc not smashing the ipod itself) then thatd help alot.
Im almost tempted to get the 5th gen and the cheapest shuffle

do NOT buy a nano if you want to skate with it. they are notoriously easy to break without the added risks of skating. --

Well from a review I read where they purposefully breaked it, it lasted for a long time through a lot of grief. However it does apparently scratch easily - but breaking and scratching are totally different.

it is the screen *****ing under everyday use they are infamous for. the problem seems to mainly occur if the player is stored in a jeans pocket. exactly where they are stored in the adverts
edit: more info

They chalk problems up to user abuse and reference an Ars Technica report that shows the Nano holds up to extreme circumstances.
i guess the ars technica report is what you read. i don't own a nano, so couldn't comment myself, but i personally wouldn't get a nano after all the bad press it has receieved about this

Maybe a case with a screen protector would help wit hthe screen problem? Or hell might just get a shuffle, no screen on the damn thing and its apparently invincible

I wouldnt touch an iPod with a 24m stick. I heard they used to convert all music to 96kbps to make more room, they've ofc fixed that now but If theyr that ebil I cant stop thinking what else theyr up to.
I got me something called sandisk, its small, it sounds good, it comes with good headphones, its cheap. I acctually dropped it out of my second floor window and it dont have a scrach, just keept on playing.
And just for the record, yes, I'm one of those ppl that hates Apple. ------------------- "I don't suffer from insanity, I'm enjoying every second of it." |
