I don't know how many of you all are actaully into this, but have you seen the Final Fantasy Advent Children Movie. I had seen the trailers before deploying to Iraq which was about Sept 2004 and just recently got a copy to watch for myself. I got to say it was worth the wait a full hour and forty five minutes of awesome cgi. The movies story line and plot were on key and the fight scenes were very good for those of you who like this sort of thing you should give it a go if you have not done so already...

I saw it.
I was massively dissapointed. Pretty, but otherwise miserable. The action was so unbelievable it hurt the brain. It made the Matrix seem like it obeyed the laws of physics.
Seriously--that scene with the "boosting" cloud up really high was the most ridiculous thing I've seen in years.
The only good recent Japanese CGI film was Appleseed.
And that just kicked ass. - Proud member of the [23].

QFT, but i thought the movie was awesome. Just that bit got on my nerves.

Massive fan of the game, been watching the film in development for years, finally got it and tbh "meh". It had its moments, the cgi was amazing, the mobile ringtone was brilliant, the fights were cool but my main gripe was the story. I havent played the game in a while but i like to think i know the general gist and the first time with the movie i was like "whaaat?".
Its very good but unless your a fan of the game you wont get it and frankly will get bored with it. I cant imagine them actually making a profit seeing as its straight to dvd and anyone whos a fan enough to know about it will have downloaded it anyway lol.

It was always meant to be a fanboy movie otherwise they would have released it in the cinema. If you are a fan 'like me' youll love all the little touches like the ringtone, and the familar soundtrack just send shivers down the spine. Why they didnt just make a movie of the game though is strange. It had everything. The only thing that annoyed me was the idea that Holy had not killed off all the humans at the end. I loved that ending. And yes being thrown up through the air was ridiculous but so is massive over bearing swords and Huge dragon beasts. Its based on a game that at points revels in its absurdness - cross dressing cloud / chocobo racing / a giant robot mog. I loved it.

Local video store?
Not sure the DVD in America is out.
But IMO its not worth it at all.
P.S. Appleseed (2004) is the better Japanese CGI film. - Proud member of the [23].

Edited by: Mr Adequate on 04/11/2005 07:28:14 Edited by: Mr Adequate on 04/11/2005 07:27:34 I have the original Appleseed as well as the 2004 remake, if anyones interested.
Deunan is hawt. ;)
Haven't seen Advent Children, but fully intend to. Like Parmizan, I'm also a FF7 nutjob. Midi ringtones on my phone for the win!
Oh, also forgot to mention. Another good CGI/Toon movie is "Wonderful Days". It's Korean. If you like Appleseed, you'll like it.

The film suffers from absolutely horrible voice acting (the male actors, that is, the women and children are excellent). The use of music is also terrible (they put music over clichÚ monologues and such), but the music itself is pretty good and truthful to the game. I just can't stand how the actors grunt everytime their character makes a gesture or simply just moves around.
Other than that, it is definately one of the best animated films to date. Seeing Aeris almost makes me cry every time I see it. I like the first FF film better though, as it is more down to earth and better suited for a film than Advent Children (If you havn't played the game, it won't make much sense at all).

Was ok, though realy for fans.
(Found an unsubbed version in the network at home, didn't understand more the I think "mother" and that due to "naruto" and "X-99" in which they constantly go boo-hoo-whine-cry-snivel about lost family members, except this, both have nice action scenes.)

Can't really comment on any other Japanese CGI films as I have a verylimited experience (basically Applseseed )
But that film, deffo ftw. The opening credits are just crazy.

If you liked Appleseed, see both seasons of Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex.
Same director, same ownage. Less CGI though, its a TV series. - Proud member of the [23].
