"Criminal Flagging".
I've heard this term thrown around for a while now, mostly in relation to the proposed Ore-thief changes, my question is what is it and how does it work?
Ok, an example, i am mining, someone steals my ore from a jet can, and gets flagged as a result, yes? Does this result in a physical change i can see? do they get the red flashy business on the overview? how do i tell who is flagged? Is this related to security status at all? or personal standings? Say i get really unlucky and have a whole procession of people steal from me during one day, do i get a list of all the people i can legally hunt down?
Just wondering.

1. someone steals from can
2. they flash red on overview
3. you are free to deploy sentry drones to hurt him and scramble him from your ship based module maybee web as well if you can fit it.

I've been thinking about this criminal flagging change and in reality it really wont stop ore thieves or anybody else because:
If i'm sat in a belt mining away into a jet can, somebody comes along and takes from my can i can shoot him, great!
If somebody comes along in a nice shiney battleship and takes from my can im not gonna shoot him as then he can shoot back and in a barge i've got no chance!
Fair enough a battleship doesn't hold that much and thus cant take alot, but whats stopping them flying to me dropping a can next to mine, and taking from my can straight into there new one. I cant take it back from their can without getting criminal flagged myself.
So it might put some people off from stealing stuff who dont own a battleship or people will just group together, one in a hauler, on in a BS if we shoot at them they blow you up and take whats left of your ship.
Any ideas ?

Well iore thiefs are usually alts which only have the one ship which is a hauler so i dont think we will see them flying battleships as soon as the crimnal flagging comes out

I'm looking forward to leaving goodies in a can, and sitting close by in a stealth bomber. ______________________________________________

I think it'll get screwy, when you're trading in space you can only use a jet can so they'll get security problems.

Yes but seeing as the only response to this is taht you can attack them, you can still trade in space you will just have to chose not to attack them, thow for safter reason trading in empire should be done in station.
Unless u want to be ganked.

imo it should be like this, the thief takes the ore and has to put it into his hold (aka can't drag/drop to another can), then for the next 15 minutes he can't do squat, can't drop the ore, and can't warp to station/gate cause the sentries will blow him up.
Offcourse it would be easier if other people can't take from your can unless there in your corp or in your gang period. But i guess ccp is opting for something with a bigger chance of violence :D

Well if you want to go crazy, I think as soon as you steal ore from an asteroid in a Sovreign Empire system, that factions Navy should swoop down and blow up the miner.
That would stop ore theft. ______________________________________________

I hate people who wine about alt abuse.
I have a battleship character, my pirate, and then I have an alt SPECIFICALLY FOR ORE THIEVING. How is this different from having a production alt?
Oh wait, its EXACTLY THE SAME.
