I played eve for quite some time, followed the wars and soap opera stories that have played out. The player driven content of eve has really been more fun to follow than a lot of real world news. With this in mind I was wondering what reaction you would all have to a one or two hour show dedicated to the player driven content in eve.
I work in my off time at an internet radio station in Las Vegas Nevada. We have a real station and not just something set up in someone's garage. The station is setup with webcams, a chat room, a toll free telephone number, and a very well setup stream with the ability to have a podcast ready for download within seconds after a show ends. Will be available on most podcast systems including i-tunes.
I do not want to compete with eve-radio for listeners. In fact I doubt we will realy ever play any music at all like they do. I couldn't DJ to save my life........
What I see for content of the show would be as follows: (any ideas you have would be really great to hear if I miss anything) (these are in no set order just ideas for segments)
War(s) update with interviews from leaders from alliances or corps involved
corp/alliance press releases
hints and tips for a miner, pirate, and general player.
game changes and how they affect general play (thinking of calling it "the ginormous pink bat of nerfing" segment)
special guest for people to ask questions of (popular figures in eve or if they would come on the show game devs/gm's/forum moderators)
let me know any thoughts on this and any ideas you thnk would be great segments. If all goes well and you the people of eve would tune in.... The timeframe we are looking at is starting the end of november on saturday around noon or so pacific time (gmt-8).
Thanks

Sounds great. I just recently tuned into Eve radio and while I like their music ok, I was disappointed in the lack of game relative content. How would you feel about roleplaying it a bit? Transmitting from a station in Jita or on the move in a ship to interview the heads of big alliances. Man in the roid field reports. Etc. It'd be fun.

That would be so cool. I personaly would really like to hear the FC explaining himself on the radio why they did not engage a force the same size and his fleet - without losing his face.
 .
I might have ATUKO in my tag, but i have OC in my DNA

The podcast of the show will be available minutes if not seconds directly after the show airs. I will register the podcast with all podcast tracking sites I can find (i have a list we use now that has about 60 or so of them). And have the RSS address listed on the site. So you will be able to use your favorite podcast download program or service to receive it. |

A roleplaying segment would be a good segment. I would have to get intouch with some of the higherups in the whole RP part of eve to make sure it works well.

The show won't be a flame fest but the guests will be anounced ahead of time if you want to email a question or if you are tuned in live you can submit a question in the chat room.
I don't think putting two people on the show that hate each other would be anything more than a big blow out fight with people yelling over each other.
A debate system might be setup for the show for heads of corps or alliances to talk to each other in a reasonable manner.
Some flaming will get through but i think that will just add to the show. |

I got a few people asking about advertising their corp on the show. I am in favor of this, would be cool to have recruiting commercials for people during the show.
Also i sent off an email to the community manager Kerion or however you spell his name to see if they will give their blessing. I'll have to ask but maybe even get Quaffe for a commercial. I hope they say yes because it would be cool to be able to use the sounds from eve and some of the content without having to risk them getting ****ed about it.
It will only add to the game so I think they will be ok with it. |

I'd tune in. Now ideas.
1. if you can make video bits with the following stuffs:
A. on war coverage do it up RP style. Head shots and sound effects live from the engagment zones, the odd correspondents ship dieing. A somber and serious report back in a safe studio giving us sad casualty reports, inspiring stories of heros from the fronts, and details of masterful plans that succeded. And best yet do it from both sides. Even throw in some propganda bits like they had in starship troopers... "would you like to know more"
b. interviews with autorites over pirate activity, npc and player alike. Tips on evasion or engaging. Maybe even ingame foottage of the fights where "notrious pirate so and so killed 1 capusleer and 6500 crew when he viciously attacked a mega in the Coryvn system. no word yet on how many survived in escape pods, but the casualties are expected to be high." The random pirate faction "stealing the signal" and hacking the feed now and then to spining propoganda or telling thier side of the story.
C. politics, be it empires, alliances, pirates etc.. maybe round tables. The participants vehmently arguing everything from the most insane empire propaganda lines to the most alluring of rebellious ideals.
D. maybe even some overtly chesy games shows, something based on the running man, or smash tv?
Now i admitt this would be huge to do, but sooo very cool. Of course you could do it with audio only as well, with soundeffects being what they are. And I would also be quite willing to help if I can. I could probably be a good target for running man at least. I blows up nice!
2. let some of the talented eve autors do some readings. Or even better, with the authors permission, have a group go in character and do audio rp of battles/stories. Take "Legionaire" for instance, have the nervous chatter of the rookie, the sound of weapons fire, explosions, pirates screaming as they attack, orders barked in the heat of combat, the rumble and rattle of a drop pod as it screeches to the surface. All very cool.
That's all I got for now, whatever you guys do, I'm sure it will rock. Make sure to post when you are going to do it so i can tune in. And sorry for the noobness regarding pod casts, but can i listen to that on my micro zen or am I screwed.

If i were to do the video bits like that they would have to put me on the payroll, heheheeh. THats way too much work to make it look good.
But i am all for anyone that wants to be a war correspondent to turn in reports, or if they are good enough for the air audio clips. If you were in a cloaked ship you might bea ble to capture the audio direct from the fight with a play by play.
Having specialists in combat-mining-trading-manufacturing is something that we want to do. THe interviews with the alliance leaders and corp leaders is something we have to do. It is what the whole soap opera of eve revolves around.
Didn't think of the game shows but if we can get some eve related prizes that would be great (hint hint hint CCP). Maybe even hold some frigate combat championships with live commentators. WIth the web cam you guys would see a new image every 5 seconds form the contest. Who knows maybe a race would be cool too.
I also think that the Role Playing aspect of EVE would be an interesting segment. But since there are more non roleplayers it would have to be kept to maybe 5 minutes of audio, if an RP'er sends one in each week.
The podcast is available for playing right in your browser, you can type the rss into a podcast download program, or search for the name of the show (whatever it ends up as) in i-tunes (or i-tunes type program) to download it for free as an mp3. |

Unfortunatly it is not being used that much, but rumors said the CCP events team is interested in streaming their events if a few issues could be addressed and fixed. :)
So we might see some bigger use of my service sometime.

One thing that I've been tossing around in my head is an Alt who gets in contact with Corporations/Alliances who are having battles. As a neutral third party 'reporter' this alt would fly around the battle area, getting screen shots, video, etc from the battle for both sides of the conflict. Sort of a way for both corporations to have an archive of the battle without need of using their own computer resources to do it.
As a way to make sure neutrality is served, said reporter would simply be unarmed and an agreement not to shoot the reporter made ahead of time.
It might be something worth looking into.

A company sponsored by Big Blue/ ISS performing this might work the best at this time... as they are probably the most "neutral" player entity in eve (if there is sucha thing) atm...

Ooooh, I'm not much into EVE Radio, but if they did play around with RP a bit I'd make an effort to get that show.
I mean, it's not hard to claim you're transmitting from Jita, a moving ship or even a 'roid field. Not like we need to have funny speech patterns or anything.

THats a really cool site. Too bad people don't use it much. When the idea of showing a frig battle came up for the show i was going to rig up some kind of video output of a pc into a video catpture board then into out jpeg push program and then out. I think this would work a lot better. Going to try it out this weekend. |
