So I really want to salvage, but I want to be able to use salvaging drones because it's kind of boring to just sit there and watch the salvage ray do the work.
I fly a rifter atm, and have about 100mil isk.
I was hoping to be able to fly a megathron or hyperion and be able to equip my ship with good enough mods to be able to do null-sec and then be able to kill rats and then salvage them drones.
I talked to some other people, and they said that I could run into problems, so I was wondering what I should do.
This is very distant in time. I just want to know in what direction I'm going in in this massive game, so some guidance would be hugely appreciated.
Here are a few questions I have:
-Is flying a well-fitted hyperion/megathron for nullsec going to get me killed easily? -Are salvaging drones any better than simply using a salvager, in terms of efficiency and the amount of yield I get? -I really like using an autocannon set up. Which would be better, a hyperion or megathron for this?
Thanks for the help. |

The main benefit you will get from using salvage drones is it will free up a utility high/ weapon slot, and it will save you some flight time flying to wrecks that contain no loot.
However, even with max skills there will be some wrecks that they are not able to salvage (think T2).
if you want to try them train the skill to level one and throw one on and try it where you are currently operating, you should be able to decide fairly quickly if the loss of space for a combat drone is worth it to you. |

If I'm not mistaken someone ran the math and the only wrecks that can't be salvaged even with Salvage Drone Operation V are Sleeper Battleship wrecks, everything else can be salvaged with salvage drones although some like T2 BS have a tiny chance and thus will take ages. |

Nevrok Nisaean wrote:-Are salvaging drones any better than simply using a salvager, in terms of efficiency and the amount of yield I get? It requires different timing, mostly. Salvaging with salvagers is usually done after the fight, usually on a dedicated ship (the Noctis). Salvaging with salvage drones can be started before the rats are all dead, but the drones themselves are slow, vulnerable, and have a low access chance.

Thanks for the help. They would both be very bad with autocannons. They have bonuses for hybrid weapons (blasters and railguns), and do not function well with autocannons at all. If you want to use autocannons, you should probably keep training Minmatar ship skills. |

Actually if you trained gallente and drones, and want autocannons the new Dominix can be something for you. it has no weapon bonusus, so you need to have proper drone skills (combat drones). Also there should be enough space for 5 salvage drones in there |

Yeah but I fly a rifter atm, so I don't think I can equip any salvager drones on them. I have all the skills trained though.

Well autocannons = blasters to me. I just want to be able to do alot of damage in close range. It seems like blasters are the more popular choice in the future anyway.
