in my opinion intersystem travel in eve is long, boring and arduous. if ccp really wants pod-pilots to spread out and/or go explore deep-space then how about lessening the time it takes to do so?
how about reducing the number of gates to one per system? using a central gate a pilot could initiate a jump to any neighboring system.
then add skills that would allow longer jumps, say three systems within a region. then another skill that would allow a jump to an edge system in any neighboring region... so on and so forth. maybe limit the distance by the class of the ship, or as ccp loves to do add more modules to facilitate longer travel.
gate camping could take on a whole new meaning, or could be solved by having gates move to an indeterminate location within the system every so often.

thats what jump drives are for u need a shikp at the other end for u to jump to - cryosensual fields (only dreads atm then titans and carriers)
otherwise i advocate more gates actually.

i was thinking the same, goes a little like this:
put 3 extra jump gate in each emipre that points to the same gate-set in the other empires, a one jump trip to the other empire. again from those 4 gate points, add 3 jump gate that go strait to the last souvering region before 0.0 non-empire.
but! ...it i'll cost money, and you would need to be in a player run corp.
the corp needs to pay a monthly fee to use the special gates with its members, and the members cargo hold will be scanned at the gate and will be charged for the weight the ship carry. other cost may be demanded, read the fine print. ;p
you think it could work?

1) If ship travel is easy you get the One True Yulai problem starting again. Everyone will travel to one central location to buy/sell.
2) If everyone is at the only gate in a system you are going to have stupid lag.
3) Gate camping will go insane as if you can warp to the gate so can the gate campers.
And I heard the noise of thunder. And I looked and behold: a pale horse. And his name, that sat on him, was Death. And Hell followed with him |
