This is just a bit of preliminary market research. If you had the option to buy EVE related swag, well designed & high quality ofc, for ISK or PLEX would you? |

Do you mean for pimping your Avatar or RL swag?
Personally, I'm cold to the idea either way but then again, I'm more a man of substance than style.

I mean rl swag. I happen to be an artist and a designer with the tools connections & skill to produce almost anything. I work in jewelery and accessories specializing in leather but I also do clothing.
I specified "uber space rich" because the (very loose/only conceptual at this stage) idea would be to make limited runs of very highquality goods to trade for plex |

I suspect you will find that this is against the EULA, as it will consist in exchanging goods with an out of game value for isk. There are two types of EVE player:

It wouldn't apply.
1. I'm not making and actual currency 2. I wouldn't use EVE's logo or branding 3. The fashion industry is free of copyright laws & utility patents. Only trademarks apply (see 2.)
@Raw You may have a point with the EULA. I did just get off of a 12hr shift so maybe I will take some time to study the document and reassess after a nap. |

If CCP were offering real world items for ISK, PLEX, AURUM or whatever then I would happily buy them. Personally, I would be more interested in things like Graphics Cards, Laptops, Gaming PCs, peripherals and the EVE collectors edition than clothing.
But that is a world away from exchanging isk for bootleg clothes in a likely EULA breaking transaction. |

It really depends on what you make. If you make tacky looking poorly fitting shirts, then no I wouldn't take them if you paid me. The problem with EVE paraphernalia is that my EVE addiction is not really something I run around to people bragging about.
I would definitely buy computer upgrades for isk. |

between the EULA, quality expectations and copyright issues, i imagine the niche for your venture to be very thin. i am still curious about how this will turn out though.

I'd agree with BB, computer/gaming related things I would happily trade for PLEX. When CPP had that video card offer for PLEX I was one of the lucky few who got one. Not because I needed the video card mine was already better, but it was for the fact I could. I gave that card away to a friend.

Interesting. I personally embrace my inner nerd. Lets be honest, its an outer nerd. As far as gaming gear goes I guess I could do custom vinyls for laptops and cases. I know I can do mouse pads but thats tacky.
To be perfectly honest though, after a refreshing nap and some strong coffee it seems quite clear that this does violate the EULA. Oh well. Back to the drawing board. Thanks for entertaining the idea MD. |

The concept of royalties doesn't apply as I'm not RMT'ing & if I were the answer would certainly be no. I can't really see CCP asking for a cut of any ISK I might make. I can however see going through with the plan, underground, and finding thqt CCP demand ALL of my ISK leaving me in the negative for hundreds of millions. That would suck.
The real question here is wether or not I'm inducing the EULA clause having to do with RMT by encouraging others to transfer in game content for out of game items. The issue is that by utilizing high level meta gaming to route game mechanics with skills and resources that others may not possess puts said others at a stark disadvantage in the ISK race.
Having perused the EVE store however, their swag is utterly lacking in swagger. Perhaps I will contact CCP just to see if they want to buy my designs for their own RMT efforts. Hell, I would even sell to CCP direct for PLEX. If they used the overstock they hold from permabanned accounts it could be a pretty sweet deal for the both of us. |

I would imagine, for tax and legal reasons, they'd not be able to pay you in PLEX. But you could buy PLEX.

Isn't this the same as paying someone isk for designing a logo for your website/killboard or is that illegal as well perhaps? |

Closest thing I'd get is something along the lines of a Kershaw Cryo with a proper brown/rust type coating with a Rifter on the handle. It's a knife for those you who don't know.
Or even better the Cryo II when that is released, same thing but instead larger 2.75in vs 3.38in blade off memory. Welcome to Eve. Everyone here is an Evil Sick Sadistic Bastard who is out to get you. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either trying to scam you or use you. |

CCP make limited exceptions to their policy when it comes to out-of-game services that are directly related to in-game use or functionality. I doubt they would make a similar exception for items that would have a transferable out of game value (a silver eve ring, for example), since this would be tantamount to legitimising RMT by the back door. 1) Use isk to buy something that has intrinsic non-eve-related value value but has an eve logo on it. 2) Then sell the item for real money to someone who wants it for its intrinsic value and doesn't care about the eve logo. Essentially, I would have traded isk for cash via a middleman. There are two types of EVE player:
those who believe there are two types of EVE player and those who do not. |

If this was to work I think Eve would just allow you to use the Eve store items with plex.
That would inflate the hell out of plex though.
So my real question to you is.
If it's Eve related swag wouldn't it need to use Eve logo's and such. (( Like the other Eve stuff I already own? ))
Or would it be just generic clothes made to look like in game Eve items? (( I can already buy black/white/red addias and fast and furious 6 stuff at the mall ))
I'm not sure exactly what customer base you are looking for.
If you have good look a like gear on the jackets and shirts and maybe the not so tight pants it might be worth buying. (( Not so baggy black cargo pants as an example ))
Your toon looks to be just young enough to have missed the old eve store.
It had a lot of swag. (( I got multiple gurrista items, blood raider shirts, amarr key chain, art books, coaster, plenty of other nerdy items even patches and playing cards ))
They shut down the store back in October. Was horrible timing as it was right before Christmas and I had to change my entire list.
I think you should approach them about what you can do and see if they like your stuff enough to add you as a vendor.
They use to do laptop covers as well. Pretty sure that market already got saturated.
If CCP didn't think it was worth it to keep stuff on the store due to lack of sells it might be hard to find a customer base at all. |

RMT = super forbidden (insta perma ban). You are not directly money trading but you are still value trading.
The act of giving a RL valued good for a CCP property = trading the good equivalent value = money for CCP property = RMT. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

I think it's against the law in the U.S. too.
As they expect to tax this type of transaction.
I'd expect jail time if taxes based on value of the plex was not paid. |

Its not actually against the law in the US. I wear a lot of hats in my little business and I can tell you from experience that small businesses trade goods & services all the time. I always put such trades on our books. It just goes in as $ value & the IRS accepts that just like real cash transactions.
To answer some other questions: the shirts in the EVE store are just plain lame. I have a few ideas that are much better. Being mega nern who works in the fashion industry allows me to see clearly how to combine our shared spaceship geekiness with style. The trick will be to tap into EVE's rich history of player created content.
It is certainly clear that my idea would violate the EULA so it isn't going to happen but perhaps I will make a few shirts and hold a contest of some sort so that I'm not asking for anything but just giving them away. Then if I get enough traction I will contact CCP to see if they want to buy my designs. |
