I was wondering if anyone on the Forums knew how to make cinematic like videos, I see a lot of them and they are beautiful. What programs do you use, how do you remove all the boxes/crosses and icons that clutter the screen to capture those amazing videos and images. |

Ctrl and F9 will remove UI and there are a number of video editing software packs out there. Fraps and BandiCam for capturing.
I don't know any good free ones, if someone else does, feel free to share but the cinematic making process is quite fun, I agree. If I had a better one to cut and reassemble, I'd do it more. To the extent of making a 'program' for the new EVE TV. |

Twich has some integrated recorder for some games and you can choose the recording quality however I don't know at all if this is possible for Eve and if it's only available on payed accounts.
There's also a free version of Fraps but only records 30sec sequences -you tell me is enough to show pixels and make a video- the full version however is a full life time item once you payed for it, including updates.
Whatever program you/someone uses a simple advice: set your recording folder on another HD than the one you have the account playing, this improves a lot on quality and performance while playing on good machines, on older ones it's a must do. *removed inappropriate ASCII art signature* - CCP Eterne |

Yes.
First, you're in the wrong subforum. You should look on My Eve, here - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=topics&f=262
Second, unless I wildly miss my guess, he used Adobe After Effects to create the graphical overlay. There are a bunch of tutorials on youtube to help you out, so I would suggest that you start there. If you are a student, there are very cheap copies of different Adobe Suites available, and what you are looking for is the Adobe Production Suite. Here is a link to the amazon page - http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Production-Premium-Student-Teacher/dp/B007S0309I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370471643&sr=8-1&keywords=production+suite+cs6+student
The programs that you will most likely use will be: Photoshop for general image editing, Illustrator for creating vector images, Premiere for editing the footage, Audition for editing sound, and After Effects for creating video effects.

I can tell you what you need. I don't have the time to supply a tutorial, but there are plenty out there on YT and elsewhere. Also, start with T1 is my suggestion. Find out if you like creating movies & machinimas.
This is the way I progressed and "fitted" my selection. There are many other ways, I also tried various Linux solutions and freewares... But you'll find that out for yourself. And I probably forgot tons of programs I also u
T1 - Starters Package
Windows Live Movie Maker (Should already installed if you use Win7 or Win8 - very basic video editing program) Audacity (Sound re-editing & in some cases (voice-overs) sound capturing) Virtual Dub (format conversions/some editing) WeGame Video Capture Client (if it still exists) or FRAPS (preferredly - full version ain't expensive. Results in large files.)
Total cost: About 30 dollars or 20 Euro
T2 - (Upgrade when you realize you actually like to do such stuff)
Video editing suite: Sony Vegas Platinum or Magix Pro Deluxe or Adobe Premiere (They are all between 80-150 USD or Euro) Sound editing: They all have sound-editing programs as part of the suites, but don't throw Audacity away. Video capture: FRAPS and of course keep Virtual Dub
The main benefit is obviously the new suite, which will give you MUCH more options than the T1 package
T3 - "I'm addicted"
Video Editing suite: If you have lots of money and either Adobe Premiere suite or Sony Vegas Platinum, upgrade to Pro version (You can invest from 500-4000 for an upgrade. Sky is the limit. For internet Machinima style movies, I'd advise you to stick with the basic versions or get Sony Vegas Pro or Sony Vegas AND Magix Pro Deluxe (Magix has a lot of Masking & Keying etc in the cheap version already. Sony Vegas only in Pro version) Adobe Aftereffects is very nice, but not needed for what you saw in the vid you posted.
Blender or Maya - You will want more flexibility by now, including model exports to not be bound by the client. Blender is free. Maya is not. Poser - Another great option in addition to Blender - costs about 250 Video capture: FRAPS & XSPLIT (XSPLIT will also allow you streaming and in many cases has better options than Fraps, but costs about 150 or so per year...)
and keep the rest from Tier I & II
T4 - "I quit my job!"
Grats, you now have what I lack:
Time! Practice to learn what you can do you get in a year or so. But Machinimas are time consuming, unless you want to go for the very cheapest and easiest results (like a voice-over no music lets play... They are popular, aren't they?)
It takes time to find royalty free music, recording, editing... |

Besides the metric ton of (exceptionally done post-processing on that); as someone else who dabbles with video work I can guarantee that as cool as it looks, getting footage like that is pure unabashed pain. For every minute of good footage you get, you also get 10-15 minutes of cameras jerking round their point of pivot and shots of you trying to desperately get your camera ship into place for the right shot. True. If you work alone (and have a RL job...) this kind of movie will take at least 1-2 weeks. And that is assuming you already know what you are doing, meaning, you are familiar with your tools.
That is why I suggested to start small... Build your skills but even more importantly: Check if you want to make that time commitment. |

And if you're recording for good video, you're recording in high rez and high quality. You're probably using some sort of screencap software like Fraps. That screencap is pooping out high def, totally uncompressed video onto your hard drive. It's not uncommon with todays resolutions that are used that the video you're capturing is going to be roughly between 1.2-1.5GB per minute of captured footage.
So make sure you've got the space and tbh an SSD would be pretty damn useful too. TMC Senior Developer http://themittani.com - Because EvE has needed a proper news site for ages |

Aidan Brooder wrote: Lots of intelligent things.
I agree with everything that Adrian Broder said with the one addition that I always recommend Sony Movie Studio over Premiere Elements because it comes with a bunch of different programs in addition to having a better compression tool that allows you to define custom settings.
When he talks about using in game models in maya or blender, you also need this amazing tool created by the community - https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=9241&find=unread It's a bit finicky, but works very well.
As far as what Robus said about having an SSD for FRAPS recordings, I personally haven't had any problems recording onto my magnetic drive. Uncompressed AV files DO glom up a ton of room, though.

To make a cinematic like movie takes a lot of time for the most part. It won't be finished in a couple of days.
Hardest part is putting all the pieces together. Some like to work with green screens and all, I prefer more "life" like videos from ingame, which takes a lot of time posing and getting the "just right" shots. But those are the best, because exporting doesn't always include the effects (especially true in games like WoW).
I use Sony Vegas Platinum for editing (it also comes with decent audio software as well); FRAPS or Screen Recorder for ingame shots [HD quality]. Overlays and all I use Photoshop/PSP and a really old program, Adobe ImageStyler (curse you Adobe in stopping it's development). 3D effects any 3D program would work -- Wings3D for shapes; Blender for more complex shapes/textures/materials. Unless you're a student the Adobe products like After Effects or Maya (yeah, like I have 6k for a commercial licence!) will be too cost prohibitive to use.
If you can find an older copy of that Ulead Rotoscoping program, you can do the interesting Star Wars effects (or make a video like Aha's "Take on Me"). Or if you like torturing yourself, do it by hand, old skool style...frame by frame (which us old folks had to do).
