Just curious if you destroy a rat and someone else comes in and salvages it why is it not considered stealing??? the wreck has value and some are very valuable I understand looting it is but salvaging it should have the same consequences !! |

Because you don't own the salvage till you salvage it. Only the loot. |

Wrecks are considered garbage, free for everyone to pick up, otherwise space would end up polluted. |

Wrecks should be changed to the scatter mechanics. When the ship pops, a bunch of pieces fly off with the salvage and modules and if you don't catch them in time they're gone. Sovereignty and Population New Mining Mechanics |

We going to have a new mini-game to determine the value of the wreckage? |

The loot is property of the owner, the salvage is property of everyone.

That'd be ridiculous. Cleaning up after mission runners would take ages and the Noctis would become worthless. |

EVE salvage is loosely based on current maritime salvage laws, which boil down to "derelict vessels belong to the person who salvages them."
In the Real World, vessel salvage goes through maritime courts ande all that jazz. In EVE, our court system involves ship guns.
Fun anecdote time, my younger brother owns a boat. Ran out of fuel off of florida, called for a tow. The guy who responded was a professional salvager, and got my brother to say the right things, while being recorded. The second my brother stepped off the boat, it became a derelict vessel in danger of sinking, and the salver had a lien on the boat by the time they got to shore. Ended up costing my bro more than the boat was worth to recover. Don't worry miners, I'm here to help!
