There seems to be a lot of varying opinion about when to join a corp, what sort of corp to join etc and I was just wondering what others experiences were when they first started out? I'm pretty sure I'm going to focus mainly on blowing stuff up as my primary function, but the sheer number of corporations out there are pretty staggering. Anyone have any helpful advice in choosing one, and when to? Hey now, hey now now, sing this corrosion to me... |

How to find the corp that is right for you.
That thread will cover a lot of your questions about how to find one, and what to look for
But for when to join a corp.. Honestly that is fully up to you. If you feel ready to join a corp then nothing should stop you from doing so. I know some will say that you should wait until you have more SP, but honestly your SP has nothing to do with how you are as a person so depending on what kind of corp you are looking for, you can join a corp on day 1. So again... When you feel its right to join a corp, or you find one you want to give a chance, do it. Try joining us in the "EVE Tutors" channel. We're a community of vets and newbs that help each other and hang out in the channel. Whether or not you find a corp sooner or later it's a fun place to hang out and might be where you find your first corp to join.
It's okay to remain "corpless" (you can never be without a corp) so long as you have friends to make any experience more fun :D The Drake is a Lie |

when i started 5 1/2 years ago i joined one of the first corps to invite me with little knowladge of what made a good corp. lack of experianced leadership and poor organization and support led to me canceling my sub a few months later. 2 months went by and a friend talked me into resubing to help him get started, although he never subed i decided to spend a night trying to find a proper corp now that i had more knowladge. the group i ended up in got me hooked on the game once again and although i dont play withany of them anymore i still keep in touch with several 4 years after we split up. a few other groups stand out including a small merc corp that was surprisingly skilled for their average character age and the one im in now where we have made a lot of noise on dust.
in the end its very much the community that keeps many people coming back to eve. once you share a common goal with others you have more reason to log in than to grind more isk or start another skill. i cant advise you on what cor to join because in the end its all about how well you click with their community, but i can say that if you want to pvp find small group with some experianced leadership and learn right away. even if a corp has a minimum sp requirment most will wave it if you seem eager to learn and level headed. i say a small corp and not a large one because in my opinion the firghts where real skill are required are one with less than 20 people on each side, fights where every action of every pilot has a measurable influence on the outcome of the battle. yes you might somhow get into a large nullsec alliance but you dont learn the intracaies of combat in large 0.0 batlles where its mainly a blob of ships shooting another blob and the only real combat decions are made at the command level (well at least thats my opinion.
fell free to ask for any other info as there are several other regulars on this forum that would give an equaly detailed response if you ask nicely |

Find something you like to do and scout some corps that do it on a bigger scale and are recruiting. Join their public chat and get to know each other a bit. The most important thing is the people and the timezones they are on. If they seem like a fit for you, join corp, put your headphones on and off you go :).
