I am about to venture into 0.0 space and I need to find a station there to hold up in. I looked last night for about 10-15 min and couldn't find one. How is the best way to find one and is there a list anywhere so I can locate the closest to my location?

You can use the Map function.
If you open the map, go to the Settings tab. Select the service 'Fitting' there and all systems with a station that has the fitting service (All of them) will be highlighted

Use your map. Under the Stars tab check Station Count.
However, the only stations in 0.0 space are pirate soverns. Also, I believe they are all controlled by one alliance or other.

"Controlled"? As in a player corp OWNS them? Or just regularly patrols the area? I thought player made/controlled stations aren't available at the moment

The patroled stations don't worry me if I get screwed I get screwed. Part of the game and I can live with it. I just wanted to know how to find them, maybe once I do I can act as the emmissary of my corp and build an alliance(or get a 450mm up the ass).

An offer from Moo to come and hang out......Is that hang out, side the station in a noose???
On the level though if there is an offer out there I am cool to come along and hang out. Tell the truth I am keen to forge some ties with a powerful corp. Not sure if my CEO is as keen as me but it seems to be where the fun is!!

Just use the map as you've been advised.
Color by number of station in space, notice the few numbers of them in 0.0 space.

Not all the stations in 0.0 space reside in pirate sovereign territory.
If you filter sovereignty, you'll see there are other ones besides empire or pirates.
There's Sisters of Eve and Mordu's Legion to name two I know of.
However, since this is your first trip to 0.0 space, let me offer some advice.
Keep an eye on local channel, do show info on everybody there. Be weary of everyone. Even if they have negative security status, doesn't mean they are pirates. Even if they have a high security rating, doesnt mean they aren't pirates.
Soon enough you'll get "space smart" and know who to avoid and who to avoid even more.

Well there goes all the hype anyway. Myself and 3 corp members made our way 13 jumps into 0.0 space and had zero encounters. Was expecting at least a threat warning if nothing else. Oh well if its this easy then maybe I will get the whole corp to join us and reap the rewards.
