I see this term thrown around a lot, usually in the context of "I was insta-locked at a gate camp." However, everything I know about how scan resolution and sig radius work says that a truly instant lock is not possible. You could get a lock to be really fast, but not instant. Is "insta-lock" just slang for "ship with jacked up scan res that locks really fast" or is there some mechanic I am not understanding that allows you to make locking take truly zero time? |

It just seems instantaneous. A sensor-boosted Stiletto will, of course, target a Raven very very quickly. Most lock times for interceptors are well under a second, which is faster than the typical ship's align time. |

The server operates on a one second "tick". Instalocking is generally considered to be under 1 second lock time, although 500ms (half a second) would probably be nearer the mark.

When forming instalock doctrines for destroyers targeting frigs, the common scan resolution chosen is roughly 1350mm - someone had a post a while back with a graph showing effective (meaning real time) changes between scan resolution and actual lock time. Around 1400mm it just becomes a plateau (ie. not worth adding to). Arma Purgatorium - For the State, For the Corporation Faction Warfare, PvP, Training

Insta Log is a bad thing. Mostly after insta log you will be back at Clone Service of your choice |

I hope you meant Insta lock.
I thought CCP was working on changing the mods that aid in doing this. Mainly the remote sensor boosters. I also thought there were changes happening to local sensor boosters. I don't think insta locks should be removed tho.

some mad scan resolution fits could manage to target shuttle before it warps on gate, but problem will be so called module lag that prevents tackling it. so basically if you have enough scan resolution to target on one server cycle another cycle goes for module activation also one cycle goes for target popping up on UI and then you have some human lagg maybe cycle or two. so basically it takes 2-3 sec minimum to target and tackle, no matter what you are using or what is warping on gate |
