Made in C# to solve my multi-client single-monitor situation. It shows miniature windows of all your open eve clients. Clicking these resizeable miniatures switches focus to that client!
Downloads Version 0.1 alpha evefiles
Installation and usage In any order: Fire up your eve clients. Extract and run the exe.
- it handles eve clients being closed and re-opened fine (but you need to position new windows manually)
See examples some different set ups.
Example 1 - Four clients in a "sidebar". Example 2 - Four clients, unique position of previews for each active. (hiding the active window) Example 3 - Two clients
Requirements Aero enabled!
It was built on x64 windows 7, using .NET 3.0. It should work on 32 bit Windows as well. It might work on Vista and Windows 8. (It should)
It does NOT work on XP (no aero!), nor any other OS (linux/mac).
Donations are welcome! |

I tested it yesterday and I really like it.
The only problem I've found is, that if you start another DirectX Game, not EVE, the Preview windows turn white. At least they did it for me. Edit. It "just" happens if I start another Game in Full Screen and tab back to the desktop.
Two things I would like to see changed are the removal of the Header bar of the Preview window. The part which says "Preview". So they use up a little bit less space and you can cluster them even tighter.
The other I would like are saved settings. Basically the Options "Always on Top" etc. and of course window positions should be stored but I'm sure you are woking on that one :)
btw. it works fine on Vista. |

Sweet, thanks for trying it out!
I'll see what I can do about the header bar... Maybe I can make it optional.
Quote: window positions should be stored well, that is actually non-trivial so I'd rather not go there right now. Once I figure out a good scheme with few corner cases, sure, but haven't yet!
Remembering settings checkboxes is something I have in the pipe for next version, though. |

Hey thanks for the updates. Really fell in love with this tool. It's allowed me to play fullscreen with every client instead of cascading them. Really creative, and ingenious method too.
I really look forward to seeing this continued with, and expanded.
I do however have a request.
Customized border's. I loved the no border update, and immediately redneck'd one using a chat window to allow for this overlay to seem apart of the UI.
Honestly though bro. I think you figured out how CCP should handle single account, dual active character's. Of course both being plex'd. Have it so the second pilot is displayed as an active thumbnail, if plex'd of course, and allow the player to swap display between the two. |

As for future work/directions:
I want to do some internal housekeeping to solve some issues (that you might or might not have noticed).
I also want to toy around with having just one preview window, where all the clients are automatically tiled inside. (as an option)
Another direction I want to mess around with is having "layout styles", as in clicking a button would arrange all the previews and the clients as well for you. |

Real easy to use after I updated to the .net 4.5.
Only upgrade I see this needing is the eve UI skin mentioned. However, with borderless frames and a little bit of twiddling, the frames can be resized and aligned to fit into my existing UI's plethora of windows.

Hey well I noticed that if you oversize beyond the window's size it displays a black background. If anything is there a way you can make it so the color of the background can be changed? after that all you would need to work is aligning the display so that it's center'd and you'd at least have a means to choose the color to allow for some flow into the ingame's UI.
Another suggestion after using it now for a bit.
Mouseover size increase. Sometime I don't need to switch focus, I merely need to read the information on the other display. As easy as it is to switch displays though I think it would great to simply mouse over and have the display scale to a size we can read off of. Allowing for us to maintain focus, while gathering information off side displays.
Also. Having it so we can display other window's outside of just eve. With this app and this idea, you would save countless miner's from dieing in space. No longer forced to abandon focus to satisfy their carnel desires. :D . Aside from that you could have it so eft, is at the ready when you need to work a fit, or a browser at the mouse's reach ( I know there's an ingame one, but honestly... it pales in functionality to even opera )
Anyways. Thanks and good work. |

Great ideas! Here I thought I was done and free to play eve! :D
It's fairly easy to make a customizable pattern or list to preview to add things like EFT to be included - this is something I had in mind allready. (or your favourite episode as a PIP?)
Mouse over, yeah! that'd be p cool! I'll see what I can do. On the same topic I thought about adding the actual name of the character as text overlay - I found this info lacking when I was playing in border less.
Colors etc, we'll see!

There's a bug in 1.5 that you might have stumbled upon. Unique layout in combination with one account not logged in and a bunch who are -> exception fired (which can be ignored). Will fix. |

I will say on 1.4 that I've noticed if you switch between 2 about 3 times any other display disappears until you alt tab it. Then the display shows again. |

Do you store and reassign certain clients to certain monitors in multi-monitor configuration? Because if you restore client to a wrong monitor, not the one selected in it's settings, it start to eat CPU at a crazy rate. I.e. in my setup, an EVE client placed on monitor #1 generate 160 FPS, where on it's proper monitor #2, it only go with VSync and never break 60. |

The zoom look's good, however, due to placement is un-useable. A suggestion would be to include which corner to anchor the expansion. Right now it by default goes from from top left, ideally for my placement i would need it to do so from the bottom right. I would imagine other's might want it from the top right, or even the bottom left. For the interface you could include 4 box's in the form of a square to choose the corner from which it expands from. |

I do not unfortunately :/ Tried to look but could find anything, though the feature is explained in the thread:
Quote: EVE client view windows. From the client switcher you can use the option 'new window' to open as many as 8 view windows into your client, the views will update themselves at the same time as the client. You can control the client with the mouse through those views. |

Windows 7, 64 bit.
It runs when no eve clients are open. When one loads the program crashes. If you try to open it when the game is running it also instantly crashes.

Pretty sweet little program. Nice work. Hope you do continue to develop it when you've got more free time.
My only real gripe with it is that you need to have Aero enabled, but that's because I'm still stuck in the past using the "windows classic" theme (which doesn't use the same graphics engine that Aero uses). Yes yes, boring, old etc etc :P
Though luckily there's a 3rd party Windows classic styled theme so I'm set.

Hello,
I installed this on WIndows 7 64bit, two monitors. However, when I open two clients, the thumbnails stay on top of each other and I do not know how to change it. I would like to have a bar on the side with the thumbnails and the main charactor on main screen, with 2nd screen showing the alts, to whatever alt I change the focus. Thanks. |

Hey thanks for trying it out.
Just to check; did you a) Log in with any of the clients? My design's perhaps a bit flawed, but each layout is made unique by the title of the thing it's showing -> if you don't log in they'll be named the same (just "EVE") and as such have the same position ... :) b) Do you have the frames around the previews (found in the main window) active? You can use that to re-arrange them and then disable the frames for a more integrated look.
You could achieve something like what you describe, probably closest is if you disable the "unique layout for each Eve client" option, and add the main client to the "blacklist" (check to force hide). EVE-O preview - multi-client preview / switcher |

Amazing! I have an idea but it's quite tough perhaps.
It would be great if we could manipulate each client through only the preview windows. So: I could create a grid of 6 "preview" windows, and control each client using those windows too.
I have no idea if this is even possible but it would be epic.
Good work!

Wanted to note 2 things:
1) If you click one of the previews while the window is minimized, it does not maximize it to it's previous size. At least for me. Thus I must keep all windows maximized to use this effectively. Not a biggie for me personally but would be nice to have it maximize right none the less.
2) This is freaking EPIC with two monitors! Good job =). |

There's some other tools around that could do that, I think. I'm sure I could do it, but I'd have to research that. I don't think adds immensively to the intended use case, a bunch of previews next to or on top of a maximized client. But with big sized previews, perhaps keeping the actual clients minimized ... then yeah it's starts to make sense but not going to happen any time soon.
Maliandra wrote: 2) This is freaking EPIC with two monitors! Good job =).
Thanks for your thanks :). There's some work I have to do to test out the 2 monitor use case, and perhaps some "bugs" related to expectations. But I'm very glad you like it how it is. Would you mind sharing a screen dump of your set up that I could use in the first post? EVE-O preview - multi-client preview / switcher |

hi,
short words ...
Incredibly , while I was looking for something like this and have the tool found by accident and I want to say thank you for your work and even if I still prominent , this little tool is a most have for any of the several accounts at the same time want to play without other want to use third- famous providers that are possibly not allowed .
A trifle , if you have several accounts in the bar and you see the preview when you drive over it with the mouse, then one will not always show the correct position of the preview, I mean for example that if you left an account below the window and did you go with the mouse over it then is the position of the preview is not always optimal , it will cut off half the picture , maybe because you can change what it.
Otherwise, thumbs up , I will now recommend it!
And I 've read here , there is already a version 1.9, the latest version is always downloaded automatically for ?
Maybe in the future there is still a story about the tool and the changes in a listing that would simplify the overview of the development of something . And of course where you can download the latest version.

The tool works really great, I noticed that it crashes when it kills the client, but that does not help.
One thing you could do to make here would be the ability to make the window transparent, that would be really good to use! |

This, sir, is an awesome piece of software. Works perfectly.
I also have 2 Improvements. Auto-Snap to the Corners/Borders of the screen (or other preview windows) if the preview frame is hidden.
And the much easier change i guess: When showing the Overlay. Make it better readable. Maybe stronger shadow with white Font or white glow with black font. And i know its the Frame-Title but the "EVE - " part is not necessary. Charaktername is enough. |

Hi, Having a problem right now where the program keeps forcing itself "on top". Some of the Windows stay below while others stay on top. I don't have the option enabled or anything like that, so perhaps a bug? Not sure.
Great program btw =)
EDIT: Ah, even the options section is forcing itself on top =(. Would be great to be able to disable it entirely, as it's conflicting with a second piece of software for me. |

This tool is amazing but there is one problem that makes it unusable for me and I reckon most larger scale multiboxers.
The preview windows keep forcing themselves on top of other Windows. Even with the option disabled. As a result my multiboxing software does not function correctly. It will not send the commands properly to all clients due to the preview windows constantly attempting to be "on top".
If you could release an update that gives up the option to disable this completely, would be wonderful. Thanks and great work! |

My windows 8.1 machine had Aero on by default, eventho it's a "tablet" Lenovo Yoga thingy. So your mileage may vary. Great to hear it works tho, but a shame you need a 3rd party thing.
Todo list: * Investigate aero on/off toggle in the preview thing itself (as a button). If it's a massive hack needed I won't do it. * Click-drag using alt as modifier on previews.
Anything else? It needs to be fairly small - so not stuff like partial previews or keystroke propagation ala isboxer. EVE-O preview - multi-client preview / switcher |

No, I have Windows 8.1 running on a desktop. Aero was disabled across all Windows 8 OS's regardless of if it was installed on a tablet, laptop or a desktop. The feature was going to be made available in 8.1 but Microsoft changed their minds and disabled it - they however left the code in and some people who wanted it back on developed some registry hack's and other third party options to get it working again.
Some of them are pretty unstable and I havent got Eve-O Preview working properly yet so I will have to look into whats available as far as the registry and everything goes to see if I can get this working properly. I'm not sure how you had it by default StinkRay but there are 0 options by default for most installations - I didnt even have the registry folder needed for the basic code to run Aero.

**Edit** Just had another issue. I was able to set up multiple monitors for a few days, but now I am back to a single monitor. Now, the 2 clients that were on the second monitor no longer have a preview. Its like the program is placing the previews on the non-existant second monitor. Could you add a 'reset positions' option to overcome this? or a check to see of there actually IS a second (or third or 4th) monitor? |

I do have an issue though. I have two monitors, one 1920x1080 and another 1280x1024. Windows 7 x64.
I run three eve clients, one in the main screen, two on the small screen. I keep small previews of both (placed over the small screen eve client) when my focus is on the main client. The main client never has a preview, its disabled as I don't need it. When my focus is on one of the eve clients on the small screen, it obviously hides the preview for the client that I'm already controlling. Previews have their border disabled.
My issue is, I've noticed that when I switch between my two small screen clients using left clic on the previewer, the preview for the now inactive client doesn't always shows up. It only shows "Eve client - [name of the character]" as a window title, but no actual preview below it. I believe it may only happen when I'm switching faster than usual between clients.

Agreed. I didn't want to pay for someone I considered botting. This (assuming I can get it set up on Win8.1) is what I've been looking for.

Occasionally the program crashes when I close out eve clients with EVE-O on. Usually it's when I close the last client first. In addition, if I close a client with the "borderless" mode with the "EVE - CHAR_NAME' (sorry, I'm at work, I don't remember the checkbox name) the "EVE - CHAR_NAME" hovers above everything (I use always on top) until I close EVE-O and restart it.
In addition, with the partial demise of ISBoxer, I would love to see this program become more stable. It would also be pretty cool if EVE-O could read the resolution of the EVE client so you know how big to make the preview. That way you don't have the black bars on the top/bottom or left/right.
C# is my language of choice for non-web applications, I may take a poke around your source code and the HWND stuffs to see what I can do when I get home.
EDIT: for those who were wondering about the source code, he posted it to Reddit a few months back: https://bitbucket.org/ulph/eve-o-preview/src

All this program does is using AERO display preview of AERO window preview in selected part of screen. It does not talks with clients, and as You might know using automation on clients is banable now (altough i agree its not game world affecting stuff)

I am really bad at this stuff... like REALLY bad... but decided to see if I could get the tracking of client locations in. Forked the repo and began playing around this morning. Mostly just trying to understand how the program currently works and how to track the client window. You can see my progress here: https://bitbucket.org/regner/eve-o-preview/commits/c480aa58bbed45a5357eae53e00b9d36157b693b
Again, I am REALLY bad at this stuff... so please feel free to laugh away. Hopefully this evening though I can get something decent working.

Looks good FoxFour. I compiled and am now using your branch. Tried to make a trackbar which would adjust the preview based on a percentage of the client window but decided that simply resizing it with "show preview frames" checked is far simpler.
I'm going to see if I can pin down this crashing issue I keep getting when I close the last client in the list. Every time it crashes I am not debugging. Oh well. I'll find it eventually.

Except this is free, open source (I can fix the bugs I find), and doesn't possess the soon-to-be-banned automation features that I might accidentally click on if I'm not paying attention. All-in-all, I'll take a slightly buggy open source program over a subscription based program any day.
I'll see if I can pin down that crashing bug as well as why the overlay text doesn't disappear when a preview is removed (aka a client is closed). At least, that's my goal for this week.

Yeah. And if you open up another client and put the preview in the same location (ie: same account, different character or what have you), the text is still floating there. My guess is that the overlay text isn't disposed/removed when that preview window is closed. I need to test to see if it's just the borderless preview (I think he calls it "flat"?) or if it's the windowed preview as well. I use the borderless as I tend to accidentally click and drag the windowed previews around. Once I'm done with my EVE payment plan (aka "work") I'll see if I can work on the overlay thing. That shouldn't be too hard to pin down as it's happens every time.

FoxFour, if you could try something for me since I am at work it would be appreciated. If not, I'll test the fix when i get home in roughly 6 hours. I may have found the solution persistent overlay bug. My guess is that it was assumed that when "previews[processHandle].Close();" was called, that the preview's overlay would close as well. That is not the case and so "spawn_and_kill_previews()" needs to close the overlay as well as the preview.
In "PreviewHandler.cs" on line 196 add:
previews[processHandle].overlay.Close();
If that works, you can replace lines 182 to 201 with what's below. For some reason he had two foreach loops when it only needed one. No need to create a pointer list from the missing process handles if we're just going to iterate through it in the 2nd foreach loop below it. I had to use pastebin because of the forum's uncalled for prejudice against the pointer list's triangle brackets http://pastebin.com/jwxfz1dr
for reference, here's the current lines 182 to 201 http://pastebin.com/MRrZW4Yg

Heya,
there seems to be a problem with the main program window losing focus in some interval. It makes it almost impossible to enter values in the textfields.
Must be something in PreviewHandler.spawn_and_kill_previews ... didn't have time to check it in detail yet, but commenting this function out stops this behaviour.

It was like that in the 1.13 version of the program as well. I don't use the input boxes, instead I scale the previews by checking the "syncronize resize" box and resizing one of the preview windows. Then I go to borderless mode. It has to do with how he implemented the timers. That's on my list to figure out how to fix, if I can.

A quick fix might be to open a new form so you can put in the H/W values. I'm trying to avoid rewriting the timers....I hate timers.

Just stopped testing and closed an Eve window while the previewer was still running.
Got an exception at Preview.cs Line 196, Value out of bounds ("Der Wert liegt außerhalb des erwarteten Bereichs.")
at PreviewToy.DwmApi.DwmUpdateThumbnailProperties(IntPtr hThumbnail, DWM_THUMBNAIL_PROPERTIES props)
I think it tries to interact with the closed window, so I added this call to Win32api.cs
[DllImport("user32.dll")] [return: MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.Bool)] public static extern bool IsWindow(IntPtr hWnd);
and this one to Preview.cs function RefreshPreview Line 189
public void RefreshPreview() { if (has_been_set_up) { if (!DwmApi.IsWindow(this.sourceWindow)) { has_been_set_up = false; return; }
Did the trick for me, but I'm not as familiar with the sourcecode as you two AND I don't use bitbucket ... so ... yeah. Hope that helps :) |

I'll look into that converter.

Nice thing is it keeps the commit history, which while not required, would probably be nice. :)

I can't get it to work. I'm using TortoiseHG and the hg-git. The program says the repo was pushed but github has nothing. I'm just going to upload the stupid thing. https://github.com/MakariAeron/eve-o-preview
FoxFour, let me know what your username is on github and I'll add you to the contributors list. And if you want to figure out how to convert the hg to git, be my guest. I tried for 4 hours and decided to do "real" work finally.

Pretty much. Added you. For those still watching this thread, I'm going to unwatch it since there's a new thread I created so I can change the title and the OP. Better than having to poke a ISD/GM/Dev to ninja edit the main post all the time.

Yo, activity in this thread!
I was unsubbed for a long time.
Makari, I'd appreciate if you would try and reach out to me before "taking over".
That said, I don't have a problem with an active player (and CPP staff for that matter) driving it, but can we please do this within the original repo?
Catch me on the bitbuckets/githubz as ulph.

My apologies. Your corpmate made it sound as if you had given up EVE for a time; however, the mistake was entirely mine. The project is still yours. When I get home tonight I'll push things to my fork on bitbucket and send a pull request to the original repo. Some folks (myself included) don't really know how HG/Mercurial works so I switched it to github on request. Once we get it all sorted out I'll ask them to close my thread.
Again, my apologies.

I think it's fine if you want to officer the project in my abscense, so for all I care keep the new thread. Do try and get rid of all these forks tho, and I just give you full access to the original one.
If HG really is that painful I may look at migrating the thing.

Will do. It's not really "painful" as it is "foreign". I just need to read up on it tomorrow while "working" is all.

I've been using this for quite some time. I run 3 accts on one monitor and this allows me to monitor all the screens at once. The problem I have is that the previews overlap when I switch through all three. I always have to seperate them again or limit myself to switching between only two clients. |

very nice tool. a problem ive encounted , since i like to test some fits on the test server. if the account is active on tranq and singu at the same time , the program creates 2 previews of the character screen , but they are ontop eachother. moving one causes the other to move with it :)
a very minor issue , but still .. ;) |

Doesn't modify anything in the eve program. Does no macros. Adds an overlay window (basically it's a windows program). Discussion about this was brought up with isboxer. The window displays are fine there. Same here.
It was the rest of isboxer that was the problem.
There's no problem with this program.

You can even still use IsBoxer, as long as you don't use the "braodcast" / duplicate key function (Or technical workarounds like "rollover keys")
So yes, this Program is fine.

Thanks for you answers, but you two won't save me from being banned right? Looking at the Dev activity here, it should be possible to get an official response right? |

They will never ever say "Program X" is ok. They will just say you are not allowed to f.x. use macros. It does not matter if you build a Robot out of wood, use a macro keyboard and code something. The act itself is forbidden, not the how you do it. So they will never use names.
But this program does not use Macros, or dublicate keys. Read the thread you linked again. It's not about multiboxing itself, it's just about "Input Broadcasting & Input Multiplexing" For example pressing F1 a single time and yet 5 clients get the command. This program does NOT do it. It's just a preview of the client.
I say it's risk free to use it.

Read the quote i'm referring to to the end and maybe a few post before an after that one. It's about the VideoFx feature so it's basically what EVE-O does. |

Going off of this post, there is no input automation in EVE-O Preview.
CCP Falcon wrote: Examples of allowed Input Broadcasting and Input Multiplexing are actions taken that do not have an impact on the EVE universe and are carried out for convenience:

Bolded items are things that EVE-O preview does.

My apologies for the extremely delayed reply.
With regards to "round robin" or other features of specific third party programs; We will not authorize or otherwise sanction the use of any third party software. The End User License Agreement and Terms of Service are clear on this subject:

A. Specifically Restricted Conduct
2. You may not use your own or third-party software to modify any content appearing within the Game environment or change how the Game is played.
3. You may not use your own or any third-party software, macros or other stored rapid keystrokes or other patterns of play that facilitate acquisition of items, currency, objects, character attributes, rank or status at an accelerated rate when compared with ordinary Game play. You may not rewrite or modify the user interface or otherwise manipulate data in any way to acquire items, currency, objects, character attributes or beneficial actions not actually acquired or achieved in the Game.
We do not endorse or condone the use of player-made software or any other third party applications or software that confers an unfair benefit to players. Please use player-made or other third party software at your own risk.
The key part is really this one: "2. You may not use your own or third-party software to modify any content appearing within the Game environment or change how the Game is played."
Whether input broadcasting is used, video "overlays" or other features are used does not really matter. These are third party programs which change the way the game is played. This also includes round robin.
Best regards, CCP Peligro Team Security
6A2: this should probably be clarified more, but judging by the fact that is says "within the game" in this section, and EVE-O Preview does not modify game files, it's allowed 6A3: EVE-O Preview does not do this. Though note the wording; "gain in-game [insert type here]". Which means *in thoery* you could use 3rd party software to do Speech-To-Text for those without hearing
