Well, we weren't really prepared for EW, so had mostly our base radar, gravimetry and ladar strength depending on the ships (thorax, rupture and megathron).
When trying to lock him from <10km i got a message saying me something like a 'k2000 kompressor' or something similar, blocked me from targeting him. Later in a belt he was at 40km, and the same message showed him impossible to lock, while i could still target nearby ships.
So i have 2 questions :
- What is this item ? i search nexus database and found nothing in ecm category with "kompressor" in it. Is it the message window that was bugged and didn't display teh good weapon's name ?
- he managed not to be locked by the 3 ships, at 10km as well as at 40. 10km seem to me to rule out sensor dampeners, but i might miss a point, yet it seemed more tan a "burst" action, done everytime someone started locking him. (the click of the target started and stopped 3 secs or so later with the message about ... with kompressor...)
For those of you curious out there, he was flying a maller

Exactly this happened to a few of us hunting pirates today... He was in a maller.

It might be a rare drop. From what i hear Space Invaders have some equipment that prevents people form locking them aswell.

The Kompressor bit was the name that person gave to their ship. Nothing more.
As for the ECM it could be a number of modules.

Oooops so that's the name of the ship, my bad. All the confusion came from the fact i thought it was only one item. Ok then i guess it was some kind of burst ecm at short range and sensor dampener at long range or something similar. (or a few sensor dampener stacked at short range)

Then it must have been the same guy, I guess. Hmm.
How does sensor dampeners work then? Do they affect everyone trying to target you or only the ship you've got locked and active?

Just the ship you've got locked.
They're actually amongst the best EW equipment out there: Work against everyone, and use very little cap. With three phased muon sensors (affected by the sensor linking skill), I can reduce a targeting range of 65km to 4km, and a targeting speed of 6 secs. to 27 secs. The only defense is sensor boosting, or plain old locking me before I lock you (and jam me/pod me).
It would be hard to get all three of you, though, especially on a maller. He probably had to switch targets from time to time, unless only one of you managed to close the distance needed to bypass the range penalty.
