Do any of you ever get the following bug.
You buy a new skill and want 2 start training it, but you are currently training a skill that will complete in a long time, say about a week. As you all know if you start to train the new skill a message pops up saying are you sure you want 2 cancel the current skill, you say "ok" and start training the new skill. The skill that you were training in before should be paused and can be resumed at a later date. Wrong your old skill has been reset. You are then very angry coz it has taken a week 2 get that far!
This happened to me today with calderi cruiser lvl 4. The problem is nothing gets logged so you can not rebursed. There is no way you get a responce from a GM from the "Help Channel" or "Not so Helpful Channel" and a petition seems to never be seen.
This game has terrible support (one of the worst i have ever known) and alot of the time you feel as if you have been waisting your time rather than having fun.
I almost quit the game from time to time but the thing that stops me is that i would make the point that playing this game and dedicating my time to it has actually been a big waist of time!

there are two options aborting a skill (as in right-clicking and selecting abort) will reset your skill points. switching the skill (as in selecting a new skill to train without finishing the current training) will not. did yesterday many skill switches no problem here.

agreed, it's a pain, but
the window, who popped up, told you something like
... you will loose the points, you gained before you had to choose yes/no
i "halted" skill-training's myself, but it was on my own risk sometimes, it worked, sometimes not

Its a case of trial and error..... You can train another skill even if you are in the middle of a long one... BUT never hit abort on the one your training.. That way will lose you all the points you trained up... But i have never had a problem hitting the other skill "you are currently training etc" then training it. The skill before simply pauses and the other skill is training.
lost a few hours by hitting abort once. Annoying at best but not something id quit over. Hell even a weeks worth wouldnt do it. Cause its so simple to train up again. Hell you train offline meaning you dont have to stay logged to train....
Currently waiting 3 more days for refine lvl 5. Then refine efficency

Never had this happen to me, but I sure feel for you. Did you hit "abort training" or just switched the skill? If you switched they really should refund your lost time.

I have never lost points by starting another skill during the process of another. However I have lost when hitting the abort on the current skill. If you did that, your own fault. You have been training for a while know if your on cruiser 4 so don't say your new to the game and you didn't know.
As for the way you posted this flame, I'd bet your petition went the same way. Even if CS got your petition, if you scream and whine and insult, I have heard of ex-CS people in EQ that they just mark that the person wasn't online to contact and the petition was either dropped or put on the end of the list.
By the way, it was said by the CS department that thier petition que is huge right now and to not be expecting a responce right away. They got too many people petitioning complete crap like I'm sure you did and they unfortunatly have to open your petition and read it to find out it's worthlessness, pushing back their time from reading a petition from someone who is calm and clear as to the problem.
Go find me a game that you got an instant responce from CS all the time and I'll wake you up from the dream. The more people in a game and the more people who can't write out the problem they are having clearly and if it ca be repeated (and how) then the longer it takes for a repsonce to happen.
Frankly I couldn't care less if you do quit because of things like this as it will make the que line 1 moron less when there is a problem later on.

I saw a similar issue two days ago training up afterburner some. The difference is that it showed completion imminent for 4+ hours and never completed. I got tired of it and thought if I switched to a different skill (not abort) that I could go finish the 1 point in the afterburner when things were working right again. When I did this it showed me with two skills training at once! Odd I thought but not much I could do about it so I played and logged off for the night. Much to my dismay when I logged back in I discovered the next day that the afterburner skill had reset back to the beginning of the skill, but the other skill I was training had completed fine. I dutifully sent a report to CCP but dont really expect much out of it. Its just as easy to train the skill again and just write off the amount of time lost. It would be interesting to find out if anyone has seen the problem I encountered yet though which is the reason for this post.

He is talking about aborting a skill by starting to train a newly purchased book skill, not one you already have in your character skill list. If you are training a skill and attempt to train a newly purchased skill, you will lose all your current levels skill points even if you stop training by starting the new skill. Had it happen to me.

I have to disagree with this one. I have trained multiple new skills while switching from a skill that was already in training (and well advanced in the 50%+). The points were never reverted to 0.
The only situation I could imagine this being possible is when you abort the current skill in training, then learn the new skill. Your case must be a bug.

ive seen this many times, although i think its a graphical bug only i didnt go to zero skill pionts but i did lose already earned pionts, and multiple pets did nothing as it cant be logged correctly
i think its more a sync issue between client and server.
they ignore it becasue they cant reproduce it,and mot players arent willin to risk skill pionts to test this either.
htere doers exist some kind of bug,but whether its purely graphical or an actual piont loss no one has been able to PROVE one way or the other CEO/Manufacturing and Research

I just needed a good moan. I love the game really. Just sometimes its a pain.
I thought there where 2 types of stopping skills
abort / cancel
if you abort then that stops the training and resets the skill points.
if you cancel by learning a new skill or by starting another skill level off it pauses the process of the current skill.
i have done it many times and know the outcome. I have been playing since the beta days and know there was once i time that when you canceled a skill/aborted a skill you would loose the poiints either way.
its just a shame i lost 9 days training.

does anyone actually read and understand the original post or my response?
Apparently not!
We are not talking about aborting a skill by starting training on a skill we already have in our skill list. We all know that skill points are NOT reset by doing this.
We are talking about aborting a skill we are training by starting "A NEWLY PURCHASED BOOK SKILL!". This WILL reset the skill you are aborting back to its previous level.

I have came to the forums looking to see what will happen when i stop training a lvl 3 skill to start on my energy managment, a new skill I bought for a rather large sum of isk (im still poor in this game) as I understand the above post if I did stop this lvl 3 training to start EM from the book I will loss the 4 hours iv already spent coz its from a new skill book. so I will leave EM till another time but can I be sure that if I switch to, lets say a lvl 1 training skill that I already have, will I be able to pick up my lvl 3 skill where I left it?

i do this all the time. never had any skills reset. by saying this i'm assuming you mean this. example. You have navigation lv4 training. you buy a battleship skill and don't feel like waiting for lv4 nav to finish. the battleship skill is sitting in your hanger. you right click it and select train skill. you get a message that says "blah blah blah", click ok. you start training battleship skill. your nav lv4 should have NOT reset. it should have just stopped where it was at.
at least this is the way it is for me. maybe your just unlucky this one time. ______________________________________________ Hellmar > sorry for the attitude, playing a n00b character through the current state just left me a bit bitter dev chat: Mar 18, 2004

But then the warning message does say you'll lose points, so I just live with it

nope, it wont. if it happens sometimes, its a bug. I've done it many times and I've never lost a single XP that way. Training from a book is essentially training 1st lvl ----------------------------

I lost 3 days training last night. Got new atrogelogy skill pack and trained it up 3 levels and when I went back to training gunnery level 5 it had reset to the level 4 completion values so the net effect was I lost 3 days training. I did not abort training I only switched skills.
Be forwarned switching skills will cost you points.

This is probably a good time to point out a few things. Firstly, aborting a skill training will - under normal circumstances - save to your character the points you've made during that training session. I just tested this. With "normal circumstances", I mean during regular gameplay. If you start training a skill during seriously heavy lag, in combat, one second before downtime, on a laptop with a wireless, through a satellite connection from the Arctic ... well, we never say never when it comes to bugs. Second, I've dealt with my share of skill petitions and in almost all cases no points were lost. Usually everything looks normal from our end. I see you start your training; I see you end your training; I see the correct number of points added to your skill. If everything checks out, then you haven't lost anything. Third, there are a couple of known skill bugs, although none of them really apply in the case Animal described. See http://eve-online.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/eve_online.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=Qg7SF5Rg&p_lva=&p_faqid=485 for more information. That article has a nasty habit of disappearing on occasion, but I try to make sure it isn't unavailable for too long. As the article mentions, it's not necessarily what you see on your screen that counts. The EVE client has been known to show incorrect estimates for completion, usually due to hardware conflicts, but the training is done on our server and proceeds normally. Finally: People, if you think you've lost skill training time, file an "other" petition. We're overloaded and may take a while to get back to you, but we *will* get there eventually. (No comments about why I'm on the forum and not answering petitions, please. It's been twelve hours and I need a break.) It's our job to check out things like this, and irrespective of the outcome, you always have a right to ask us.
