Just following the on-going 'Hidden Files' saga and wondering how many people have been caught out by this.
See http://www.sysinternals.com/blog/2005/10/sony-rootkits-and-digital-rights.html
for details.
I thought these morons wanted people to actually BUY music from them! I also wonder if any other companies have done something similar and trying to clean up on the quiet - making your customers criminals doesn't help one little bit. I won't be buying Sony music again.

it gets worse - Blizzard use the warden system to monitor what you are running on your machine and what internet pages you visit etc, while your playing World of Warcraft in an attempt at stopping hackers (ye right) - sony rootkits are used to get around it and potentially hack the game. - Result Blizzard should sue Sony, cos of their practises and we should sue Blizzard for invading and allowing our private details to be compromised. :) lol

This is funny because Sony BMG has created a backslash by encouraging ppl to download stuffs. I mean, you go to shop, buy a ú10 CD, played it on your PC and only to realise that your PC is infected by a viral-like program. Sending your PC to the shop for fixing, another ú100 because of a ú10 CD.
I am listening to the radio these days, better and safer ----------------

Agreed people dont want malicious crap installed on there machines. Also they tried to delete the gubbins the Sony CD left on there machine and found they couldnt easily do it - anti spy malware etc doesnt recognise it - is it any wonder people will download music - On a side note when they released the details of their report into music sales and the impact downloading has had on the industry they found that it actually encouraged music sales, but shh they dont want to tell you that - The ynow hate CD burners and will likely lobby against those - Also it is opposite for DVD sales they are actually hurting the industry.

Hiya. Just to point out that you should not blame Sony for SOE's incompetance over SWG. SOE is a different entity though it belongs to Sony. SOE has their own corporate protocols, stuctures, ladders, etc. and just because SOE is bad, it doesnt mean Sony is bad. Same goes for Sony Music or Sony-BMG. It is not fair to say because of SOE and SonyBMG, I should boycott SonyEricsson as well.
Just my thoughts. ----------------
