Hi ladies and gents,
Was fighting 30k pirates in my Thorax last night, and was doing ok for a while. Then, for some reason, my cap started draining COMPLETELY every time I used ANYTHING.
I noticed it when I turned on a single AB, and my cap went from half full to zero. My guns stopped firing, etc. I let it recharge to 1/3 strength, then activated a single 250mm rail, and again it drained to zero. I was starting to panic a bit at this point, since 2 cruisers were closing in pretty fast and I was warm scrambled...
Once again, I let it recharge to about 1/3, turned on a medium shield booster and AGAIN cap went back to zero. Fortunately, I remembered I was carrying a bunch of drones and they managed to finish off the rats and save the day for me.
This continued as I was warping back to the station. I didn't even manage to make a 2au jump on about half cap. The problem, however, seemed to have solved itself when I exited the station. Cap seemed to work normally then.
Ok, has anyone else encountered similar problems ? If it's a bug, it can be a pretty deadly one since I'm not sure what I could have done if I didn't have drones... ideas ? suggestions ? by the way, I was also using an Industrial Cap recharger (+5.2% cap recharge rate)
regards

Its the old cap bug from beta - the cap looks like its charging, but its actually charging at about 1/100 the rate. I dont know why.

Which patch? You mean the upcoming?
I lost a Scorpion to that bug in the current patch -- that plus the shield booster bug that drained 2/3 of my shields and cap before the fun began.

In the current patch, any session change will fix that problem. Warp out, if you can, then relog. Problem solved. Or hit a station and undock. Problem solved. Jump to a new system. Problem solved.
This is an old bug from the beta, It'll disappear again. ==========

Untrue i relogged and refit MULTIPLE times and still had the cap bug. For reproduction of error matters, i went out and fought the same npc rats i was fighting each time IN otakod

Just to be clear on this ship killer of a bug.
Docking/Relogging etc., CAN fix the problem, but not always - the problem can return immediately or 2 hours into your new session.
Even re-fitting your modules can sometimes fix the bug for awhile, but again it can/will return at any time.
Hope they actually fix it in the next patch.
I stopped playing after reporting it for 2 months, and losing a moa/osprey to it.
After it's fixed, time to take my ships back out of mothballs.
p.s. note on customer service here, they verified "yes we know its a bug - but we don't have a log to show thats why you died, sorry no replacement"
Even after I offered to show it happening to my NEW ship.
Seriously they need to improve their customer service, and apparently their logfiles too.

It happened to me yesterday, for the first time in retail ! (must be a record, been playing for two months now) and the warp, dock/undock and relog didnt fix it. However i found the problem to be a newly installed quad (sp?) afterburner. As soon as i uninstalled it the cap went back to normal. So, in my case anyway, the problem was a newly installed module, maybe you happened to have installed one too. If you dont remember, fool around with your modules till you find the one thats causing it

Hi All
Yesterday was my first with this nasty bug to. Figthing Moo of all things! man what a time for that to happen :) Fortunatly I was near the gate and jumped out. Came back to the fight and bang down went my cap again doh. This has not happend to me before. The only thing I had changed in my setup was adding a Langour webifier. So I shall take it off in the hopes it is nothing more than that! I run 4 type D power cores and with skills this gives me 105% cap charge increase with max cap at over 5000! So when that lot goes in 30 secs it hurts LOL.

In my experience, what causes this bug is activating a module you didnt turn on inside a station. For some reason it counts as off, and keep trying to reactivate itself and use more capacitro energy for every second its on, even if you then turn it off. As your ship modules randomly turn themselves off every time you log in (or breathe, or do anything for that matter), the best way to avoid this bug is look at your ship config and make sure everything is turned on before venturing out into the big black. Ive never had trouble when Ive done this, but often get the bug when I forget.
