Reading several postings on ship setups I notice that more than 1 of same module is recommended. Reading info on such a module many times tells something like: multiple modules will be penalized. What is the penalty? Is there a way to find out? I am testing sensor dampers, how can i tell how effective theey are? I have a feeling that they are(on NPC's), but how can i measure effectiveness of several dampers?
Tnx ----- FreeHansje

I don't think dampers have an effect on NPCs. As for your question on the stacking penalty, yes, there is a formula, and no you can't find out just with the data available in the game. I don't know the formula either (more like I can never remember it), but it goes somewhat like this (assume you enable all modules at the same time): 1st mod : 100% effectiveness 2nd mod : less than 1st 3rd mod : less than 2nd, with a bigger difference than between the 1st and 2nd etc. And I think the efficiency drops sharply after the 5th or so mod. It goes the same for all mods that have a stacking penalty.

there is no real stacking penalty on sensor damps. but there is a diminishing return. say that target has a sensor res of 100, and your damp with your skill does 50%.
1st damp: 50% 2nd Damp: 25% 3rd Damp: 12.5% 4th Damp: 6.25% of original sensor res
so sensor damn are very effective in close range 1 on 1 encounters when you have 3-4 of them. most of the time if they don't have sensor boosters there targeting range will be under 5km.

^^Not true.
Damps do have a stacking penalty, and it is the same penalty as every other mod in the game with a penalty. You can find the formula in the sticky at the top called "module information". In that post, you will find the title "stacking penalty" (or something similar). You'll find your info there.
Remember to plug the effect a damp will have on a ship into the formula, rather than the % from the mod itself (for example, a dampener giving 48% reduction would give a ship 52% of its total range).

Look at the thread in my sig ;D.

Remote sensor dampers, sensor boosters and remote sensor boosters are bugged and currently overpowered. |

Well, I dont understand it. Every test Ive run (and Ive run many, because I use sensor damps quite a bit) has turned out exactly the way they are supposed to- with the penalty.

Edited by: Vishnej on 13/11/2005 18:33:28 I think scan resolution isn't calculated with a penalty in order to boost the effectiveness of sensor boosters - WCS and intys make it just too easy to go right through a ganksquad otherwise.
There would be no such thing as an instalock BS if there was a stacking penalty on scanres. T2 Destroyers: a proposal Requested Changes: An alphabet's worth |
