Firstly I don't care if this might be a re-post. I propose a simple quality of life change for cap boosters
They need the ability to be 'repackaged' in station to reduce their volume for shipping purposes
Seriously, while i understand their volume for game balance, these things are absurdly and needlessly large for hauling
Fix this and make a lot of people happy COME AT ME BRO

this is all about packaged cap charges that cannot be used in space

I think there are three lines of thinking in keeping things they way they are:
- batteries don't keep their charge if they are dissembled. Imagine taking apart a post production alkaline battery. Once it's in pieces it's dead.
- it would become a new way to compress minerals (right now the 425mm rail gun is king). This would not be good (power projection reasons and all that jazz).
- why? Your argument for wanting this change literally hinges on "because I don't like it the way it is." That's a very weak reason for making a change (that was probably intentional) that will have wide ranging effects. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

1. repackaging works for all ships & modules, meaning there is no reason why this shouldn't work for charges
2. true, i hadn't considered this aspect of the idea, though i guess this could be managed somewhat by managing the size the charge repackages to. (also note that mineral compression like you mention is a symptom of a lacking nulsec industry. Having to import minerals from highsec shouldnt have to happen. Hopefully future changes to the game can fix this)
3. while i certainly dont like the current setup, my argument certainly doesnt hinge on it. Cap charges are sized around pvp balance, not ease of transport for industrialist and traders. I believe there can be some steps taken to relieve the excess cargohold they command when they are moved around space.
To put this in context, the reason i came to this idea was when i attempted to move my personal supply of cap charges when TEST alliance moved staging system. I noticed that the cap charges were taking up far too much room for their actual value in game. I reasoned that if moving enough supply for one person was this troublesome, moving enough for a markets worth must be a nightmare. COME AT ME BRO

So how much compression are you asking for? Is the ability to haul 1875 cap booster 800 charges not enough? That is with level 4 Minmatar industrial. With level 5 skills it is nearly 2000 cap booster 800 charges. 2500 navy 800s @ level 4 and 2600 @ 5. Is this not a sufficient amount of hauling capacity?
