I hope there are no exploits within the game.
That a client run, javascript based game isn't safe against hacking (memhacks/modifing cookies/debug proxies) should be obvious, so I even didn't try much to avoid that. Even adding a checksum for the score wouldn't do it, since there has to be method which can be copy+pasted to a temporary page which is used to generate the checksum.
Changing the complete game to php code and run it server side would make it more secure, but also very sluggish (reload the page after every buy/sell) and the game would lose the virtual drug dealer feeling.
It's more important that people have some short fun playing it. On december the 1st I will give the cerb to the top player (as promised), so at least if somebody whats to cheat, he has to do it with his ingame name. After that I'm thinking about removing or reseting the e-peen.
As an addition: If anybody wants to be removed from the game (e.g. scammer/ore thief list) just write me a evemail and I'll remove your name. ________________ Become a carebear |

Ew I'm afraid you can expect a freaky highscore list on the 1st then. Server side shouldn't be that bad.. I mean the greater part of the time the script isn't doing anything.

Edited by: DevBlogHaxor on 14/11/2005 13:38:47 There are no exploits, at least I haven't found one.
Changing the variables in memory, or running my own javascript code by changing the path of the javascript files is very easy to do.
The problem is, someone could do this just enough to win, not wtfpwn like I did. And no one would know any better and they just got a free HAC.
So to make it obvious there is a problem, I wtfpwn.
You do what you like. But personally if I was running the contest I'd work on a way to secure the system first, I'd suggest re-doing the game in PHP, yes it will be slower, but it will be secure. If your going to be giving out prizes that are worth ISK, it's worth spending the time to secure the code. All of the scores could have potentially been h4xed.

I updated the game, which really required to reset the highscore and local highscores . Sorry for this - competition and prices (thanks to all who contacted me) are also updated. However the old online highscore is still available.
