The most imporant feature I belive is more WARS, and reasons to fight, also more interesting enimies than the npc ones.
One solution: People can be hired to create mini-events: For example one user could be play as a pirate. He would then replace the npc pirates. The problem is that most real pirates in the game are too powerfull, I really don't feel like going up against 3 battleships in my cruiser. The solution to this would be that these standin pirates would get only special items, perhaps ships in all categories, frigates, cruiser etc. So they will be pretty easy to be shot down. Actually the idea is that they will be shot down, just like npc pirates are now, but that they will fight much better and more interesting. These people could get perhaps a few ships every day that could be destroyed, and then they will get new ones. This pirate-actor could be played as perhaps a forth char so no connection to the other players. Also these actors would role play the game much more and try to create fun scenaros. It would also be an interesting diversion to play as one of these actors once in a while. I think this could really help out the game, since enimies would be much more interesting. And these pirates would not act like the pirates we have now, that are mostly camping gates.

Like others have said, it would be much more interesting if more different work styles emerged. For example mechanics. In the beginning I thought that one could earn a living by installing equipment for ships. But then I realized that everyone could just train mech to lvl3 and they could install everything themselves.
The only thing that is needed to create a mechanic role is this:
- To install some ecuipment you need to have high mechanic skill. Also more mechanic skills should be released that require a LOT of traininig. Not everyone should be able to install top ecuipment. Only specialists should be able to do this. Also there needs to be added some kind of feature so that people can install things, without the risk of the user to steal the ecuipment. So some kind of "Install" feature (right click, like trading perhaps).
One problem with this is that it would be uncool if you had to have a specialist every time you change the outfit of your ship. This needs some consideration. Perhaps this is a good thing, since it encourages team work. Other ways to avoid this is that the item only needs to be "assembled" once by a specialists. Then the user that owns it can install it himself.

great thread!
when i first came across eve, i hoped that combat would be similar to that in the X-wing/TIE fighter series of games. Obviously, i understand why it isn't actualy like that (mostly bandwidth reasons), but it would still be nice to get something of the length of the battles, and the usefulness of frigates (which should come with elite frigates...)

I second mostly everything, and especially: - more specialization (everyone shouldn't be able to do everything) - harder agents missions (with more interesting rewards, but much harder things to do) - let the frigates be useful (speed should be a 1/10/100 factor between BB/Cruisers/Frigates for example)

Belive this will be solved as soon as corporations have assets in form of stations or platforms that they can loose, thus they have to strike back in order to protect those assets. Welll, may just be me but that sounds like a hell of a good reason to fight a war.

<quote> I realize this is a huge and laborous task, but the current amount of items in (quantity, quality and types) is mindboggling. And of course most of them are worthless since those "up the chain" are so easily available. Lessen the drops 90%, add more bounty to the pirates and of course add more difficult pirates :D </unquote>
I completely disagree with this part of the post. I think enemies SHOULD be more difficult as well, but I think the loot should be increased, not decreased. Making pirates harder and the loot worse will lead to only pvp making sense. When I used to play UO way back when, monster loot sucked so much that the only way to play and get loot was to PK people.
Any time you kill a player you get at lest the basic equipment they need to function in game. Killing an npc pirate will give you much more useless stuff (which is fine if npc's are easy). If we make pirates more on par with pc's (which I'm all for), then making their drops slightly closer to player drops would make sense.
