I want to run 2 accounts side by side, can they be run from the same install directory, or do I need to copy it? Also what ways are there to speed things up, I'm not bothered about sounds/details etc if I switch them off will it run faster? ____________________ 1) Buy Eve Time Card 2) Sell it for ISK 3) You just legally bought ISK for real money! |

Yes you can. Just load another instance of the eve-client. Your computer will have to share CPU between the two clients so it'll run sluggish if you dont have a speedy computer/graphicscard.
Turn off sound will increase FPS, yes. Also turn of all effects and turret effects. shift-alt-ctr e

I've run 2 clients on my machine, witch isn't the best of the best. But I used the test copy i had on my machine. Know a few who run 2 acounts on the same machine.
When i ran both clients, I turned graphics to an absolute minimum, wich turns the ships into ghost's , and ran perfectly.

They can be run from the same directory, I did for ages, but the consensus is copy it. To speed things up the most obvious thing is to disable sound it makes a HUGE difference.

I can quite happily run 4 account simulataneously on my machine if I so choose - the FPS suffers a little when all 4 are running, but my machine is petty much upto the job.

I run EVE on a laptop, which is bad enough on it's own.
Now I run two clients on the laptop. I did run them both from the same directory for a while, but my computer became VERY unhappy with me, so I copied the directory over and the two accounts run fine.
Like was said above, turn down your graphics, kill your sound, and kill effects and turret effects on both clients.
It would also help if EVE wasn't so laggy in general lately. ---------------------------------

What you sportin kiddo? I had a very brief thought of rolling a new character that doesnt have 14 base charisma. I quashed it fairly quickly, but im still curious if I could on my present system:
XP2500 OC ~ 3000 1 Gig pc3200 9800pro 256 soft OC'd a bit two HD's to run a client on both (less HD grinding)

I've run 3, with sound, from the same install directory. AMD 4400+ X2, 6600GT, and one gig of memory. Works fine.

A small hint, turn off the sound, if you havent done so already.

Agreed the sound is a killer.
What puzzles me though is that i ran two perfectly with sound before the exodus patch.

Edited by: Serpensis on 14/11/2005 19:01:11 Strange. If I try to run 2 clients with sound, I find myself looking at the POST screen :) I dont even get a bluescreen, it just *poof* -> reboot

Happens to me when I run 3 accounts on the same PC. I think it can be countered when you run the accounts from 2 different directory.
Edit: never tryed it though, still no reason for me to use 3 chars at the same time

I run dual clients on my computer quite frequently. Early on I tried running them from the same directory / install of EVE, but this caused frequent crashes and instability. After installing two different directories of EVE, I haven't had crash issues since.

When I tried to run a second client, it would run for a while and then crash...I got a BAD_POOL_CALL which indicated some sort of memeory error. I found that if I disabled sound (Ctrl + Alt + Shift + F12) they would run fine....out of the same directory by the way.
I haven't tried running fully seperate copies yet.

Tried it works fine with 2 clients from same directory. Kinda slow even with all effects/sounds off but not bad for a two and half year old machine. Bit slow in space but it's fine for high sec ____________________ 1) Buy Eve Time Card 2) Sell it for ISK 3) You just legally bought ISK for real money! |

Best way to do it would be to get a dual core machine, put EVE in two directories, and assign affinity to each. With 2GB of RAM and a newer video card (or 2 ) you can run both with no stutters (unless your bandwidth can't handle it). The more CCP uses modules to resolve balance issues instead of systemwide rules, the more control CCP will have over how EVE works. CCP, please keep this in mind before swinging the nerfbat. |

I used to be able to run 2 accounts until some patch way back. Now when i run agent missions or put them both in a combat situation, even with graphics all the way down, sound, turrets and effects off, it still blue screens my comp after 10 or 15 minutes. ----------------------------------- about:blank |

I run two from the same install/directory constantly, and while I have the jukebox turned off, everything else is on. Both instances run in 1024x768 windows, on an overall desktop res of 1600x1200 (hey, for a miner and his escort, you don't need lots of "game" real estate). Base stats: AthlonXP 3200+ (400FSB version), 1GB 2-2-2 Crucial Ballistix, GF 6800oc w/ 128M, nForce2 chipset (FIC AU13).
About the only problem I ever have is if I start and log in to both accounts simultaneously, the video driver will sometimes throw an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

must have a kickass video card since most can only support 3d on 1 display (that or SLI)

I have to say that hardware makes a very big difference, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the latest or fastest thing on market. Obviously dual cores, dual processors, or, to a lesser extent HyperThreading make things smoother, but not necessarily a requirement. I've run 2 clients on one machine that was a P4 2.8 w/HT, 1GB ram, GF 6600GT graphics, and a SB Live 5.1; and it all ran pretty smoothly. Nowadays I run 3 clients on a Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop, pentium M 1.6g, 1GB Ram, GF Go6800 - the third client bogs things down a bit, but still quite playable.
Sound is a big factor with multiple clients, but it can vary by card. On the P4 system, the SB Live would run out of accelerated hardware channels after the 2nd client, which made turning off sound a big thing. On the notebook I can run all 3 clients with sound on, but turning it off speeds things up quite a bit.
All in all, the graphics and sound card seem to make the biggest difference with dual clients; more video memory on the video card, and either turning off sound or a card with more accelerated channels.
I've tried playing both from seperate folders (on seperate drives) and from one folder, and haven't found an incredible difference, though it does seem to take the 2nd (and 3rd) client far longer to start up when on the same disk/folder.
Make sure you turn off 'Sun occluded by ships' and sometimes 'Trails' - these settings seem to cause major problems for some setups with multiple clients.

I perfectly run 3 accounts on a laptop.
Sony Vaio 1.8 ghz Intel Centrino 1.00 gb ram Geforce Go 6200
Serious, I have no noticable FPS drop at all.
Run all 3 windowed, keep 2 of them minimized usually, but I've had 2 overlap eachother fine.
