I recently moved areas to join some friends and I'm noticing that the L4 agents are putting me against Angels and Sanchas on occasion. I normally mission in a Domi which does well, but I think it would be good to have alternatives that can shoot Explosive or EM damage at them to make them melt faster.
My gunnery skills are pretty good, but I'd have to train large energy and large projectile turrets so I'll be stuck with T1 guns for a little while. With that in mind...
Amarr: Which BS for T1 guns? Beam or Pulse? Which should be trained to T2? Should I change to a different ship when I can use T2 guns?
Minmatar: Which BS for T1 guns? Arty or AC? Which should be trained to T2? Should I change to a different ship when I can use T2 guns?

Apoc. I'd say beams; some missions pulses are admittedly better.

Pulses.
Kamui Shirou wrote:Should I change to a different ship when I can use T2 guns?
Possibly. T2 pulses open up range options quite a bit, which makes the Armageddon viable (since you're coming from a Dominix and it relies on drones to supplement main DPS) and at least opens the possibility of a pulse Abaddon, though that's still usually better with tachs.
Kamui Shirou wrote:Minmatar: Which BS for T1 guns? Arty or AC?
Maelstrom and have a fit you can switch between them. Both have their frustrations but either works given the right mission and fit.
Kamui Shirou wrote:Which should be trained to T2? Should I change to a different ship when I can use T2 guns?
ACs. Start looking at a Machariel as soon as possible -- and it doesn't require T2 ACs given its massive falloff bonus. It's not cheap but it pays for itself. |

For Amarr, it is generally accepted that until you can train for T2 Pulse lasers, you should use beams, due to the range limitations on pulses without Scorch. As for the ship, either an Apocalypse or an Abaddon will do fine... the tank/dps on the Abbadon is generally a bit better then on an Apoc, but it's more difficult to use due mostly to cap issues. When your getting started with Amarr, I would say an Apoc would be better suited.
With Minmatar you will have much more flexibility. For guns I would say, just like the Amarr, stick to long range guns (Artys) until you can train for T2 Autos. The thing with Minmatar BSes is that it's "best" mission runner, the Maelstrom, is a shield tank, so unless your shield tanking skills are up to par then you'll need to look elsewhere... likely the Tempest but I've never used one so idk how well of a missioner it would be.

@Zhilia Mann
Thanks for the info. That is roughly what I was expecting, but I wasn't sure about the Apoc without T2 pulses.
I was looking at the Mach a while ago and it looks like a beastly damage machine.
@Novah Soul
My shield and armor tanking skills are almost exactly the same. Shield might actually be a bit better since I spent time tanking L10 complexes in a passive shield Ishtar and flying a Scimi.
I've heard about the cap issues with the Abbadon. Are they still there even with maxxed cap skills? |

Amarr all the way, what else you would expect from a amarr char?
To be serious minmatar got some advantages by the damage types and the better tank. However if you don't plan to do a lot angle(still ok with very good skills, fittings and conflag ammo) or guristas(crap, no matter how you look at it) amarr performs quite good. You get the huge optimal, high damage, cheap ammo, most devastating faction, T2 and T1 BS(NM/pala/abaddon) and ok tanks.
You should stick to the Apoc, to a point where you know the missions you run pretty well and got the cap and gunnery skills close to maximum, then advance to a very light tanked abaddon with maxed out DPS output. Scorch isn't the all end of PVE(even if it is many times if you stick with targets with low EM resists) since the high EM damage will lower your overall damage output compared to faction ammo up to 50km range, what is most of the time the general range your fight and achievable with faction standard crystals.
Technically Maelstrom vs abaddon is not a big difference in performance today. Mael is a bit better at close range, can change damage types and tank a bit better and abaddon is better at med range where it still operates in optimal and deals a bit more dps witht he worse tank overall(not a big issue if you run L4). |

More-or-less, yeah. My Abby has about 4 minutes of cap with multis and all modules running. It is usually enough tho, as I just stop firing for 30s or so when my cap gets low and it will recharge enough to keep going. You just need to pay more attention, really. |

I'm running missions for Caldari Navy Technically it's Caldari Sov but so far I've gotten a bunch of missions vs. Sanchas/Blood Raider and have an Angel Extravaganza to do. I'm expecting some Guristas missions which is what the Domi will rock, but the other missions another ship would do better I think.
Beam Apoc + Arty Maestrom it is.

Yes. Hands down yes. Pulses aren't so terrible, but a max gank Abaddon usually uses Tachs -- and Tachs nom on cap like there's no tomorrow.
A few minutes should do you though, and that's entirely possible to get. T2 EDEs help quite a bit here and aren't too expensive. |

Your probly going to find out that you can just switch up ammo and arty&auto cannons per mission and rock them all in one ship.
Go for tech 2 Projectials and Vargur and you will never look back. At least till ether projectials get nerfed or Vargur. |

I was also considering that which would significantly reduce the training time. The argument for training Amarr however is "Fricken' Laser Beams". |

If you are flying a Domi I will guess that you have some pretty serious skill points invested in drones. You may in fact not want to train up any other ships. Mounting projectiles on a Domi actually kind of works. You can put the cap savings into tank and then you fit ammo and drones for rat type. I know a lot of people who do this. |
