I am attempting to resolve this with support but so far we are getting nowhere.....thought I'd throw it open to wider audience
Installed game, ran and got got to account login screen. Logged in and noted version was build 934. Autopatcher kicks in, downloads, applies patch, but when attempts to run game again I get opening splash screen then back to desktop.
Now cannot get to login at all - always shows openign screen then back to desktop.
My machine which is only a month old and has no problem with any of the 20 or so other new games Ive accumulated is:
Dell Dimension 8300 PIV 3.06 HT 400Mhz FSB ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Catalyst 3.6 1 Gb Memory Audigy 2 sound Windows XP Pro
All drivers and windows updated to latest spec
Very frustrated when friend brought round his old workhorse PC and game ran first time!
Support are trying to help but we dont seem to be getting anywhere. Their suggestion that I roll back all my graphics card and Directx drivers didnt exactly inspire me...
Someone please help - game looked great on friends PC but at the moment for me its a ú25 beer mat

It may be that the drivers you are using are causing problems (look here) But I have another suggest and that would be to totaly uninstall the game (I know a pain). Then install it again. But DO NOT auto install the patchs. Go here and download the full patch and install from there. I have heard this helps for a few people.
Good Luck

Thanks for the reply but I should have mentioned thatIve tried just about every way of patching and updating the game including downloading the patch manually and downloading the whole 455Mb file....uuurrgH!
Ive also uninstalled/reinstalled several times but always end up at the same problem
Support say they are putting a senior game guy on it, but my gut feel is that its summat in the latest patch thats spoilt it. At least with build 934 I could get to the login screen! LOL

Yess.....
By turning sound off in the prefs.ini file, the game loaded first time so its probably an allergic reaction to my Audigy2 card
However there must be dozens of people playing with that sound card so why havent I seen my problem on these boards before??

It's another sound problem. I bet the hardware acceleration slider trick works. http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=21847

I had the same problem, Couldnt get to EALU screen after 1128 patch, only solution i found (in that i could still have sound) was to run Eve in Windows 98 Compatibility mode (only for XP users) give this a try.

Nothing to do with CCP. Running in Win98 mode basically turns all the "smart" bits of your sound card driver off. Which makes it much more reliable. Because sound card drivers are incredibly badly written. There's really not a great deal CCP can do except turn off sound - you need to complain to your soundcard manufacturer. I realise this won't achieve much of course :-(

Mistaph
I have no axe to grind with you or with CCP but I would ask you why only EVE Online has any issues with my sound card, when none of the 20 or so other games I have just bought for my new machine do?
