Sorry to have two topics here at once but i couldn't resist. What are your top5 greatest gaming moments
1: FinalFantasy7 - Aeris dying/Sephiroth walking thru flames/humanity being wiped out at the end - dont care what advent children says, thats how it ended. 2: Eve Online - Dying or losing your battleship for the first time. You realise that wow this isn't like any other game iam actually physically hurt right now. I felt sick from the sheer gutteral anghuish i felt at watching my first bs blow up. 3:Playing my First FPS my god its its 3d and look at how the gun sways :) those were the days. 4:First time i played a playstation, the graphical leap was astounding. absolutely overpowers anything that is claimed today despite what they say. 5:Firing my first death hand in Dune2 (amiga) and then proceding to build another 7 palaces. One of the greatest games ever made.

Freespace 2 does have quite a lot of the fun missions such as the : "DIVE! DIVE! Hit your burners pilot!" start of 1 covert ops mission :D
Other than that I can't seem to remember any huge "omg!" memories

My 5p worth on thoughts about gaming moments:
Truly great gaming moments are the ones that manipulate your emotions to the extent were your usual stioc sitting position in front of the screen is suddenly a hive of activity - arms flaying raised voice - They are getting rarer these days, as more and more originality is being sucked from the games we play. Once upon a time everything we saw was new everything we played was an experience to remember. Now-a-days generic shooter 6 cant give you the same fix. Half-Life 2 was released last year to unprecedented levels of hype. Guess what i thought it stunk - the game played well the engine is amazing but there was no feeling to any of it. (If i see another barrel labelled flammable i'll scream) F.E.A.R. just being released has given me more moments of geniunne emotional response in the first few minutes of play than the whole of Half-Life2 admittadly fear is the easiest emotion to manipulate in a video game, but its done well. This is what we need for gaming moments things we see and remember for how they made us FEEL wether it be through the game design in single player or over the net. The latter being emotional through situation we have placed ourselves in. We need more gaming moments in todays games.

1 - Final Fantasy 7 obviously, but less obviously - Those damn long stairs that you run up to get to the something floor of the Shinra building. That part sticks out more than anything.
2 - Ultima Online - Owning a house for the first time (back in the "good" uo days) and setting up a shop. Damn cool!
3 - Metal Gear Solid - Meryl being shot + the torture scene. Oh. Em. Gee.
4 - Eve online - The first time I warped and the realisation that this game was a full galaxy. I honestly expected to press warp and it would cut to a movie or fmv to show my ship "warping" while loading the place you want to go to. Very cool.
5 - Mario Kart (original) - Just the whole damn game. *drools* --------------

Edited by: Nero Scuro on 18/11/2005 15:55:32 For some weird reason, the first alien city from MDK2. I don't really remember it now, but I just remember staring up in dumb awe at it for like 20 minutes.
Uh... One of the early marine missions from AvP2, when you have to go into this Aliens-style base and find your squadmate, but when you find her she dies and the hive stirs up. You have to run up backwards through the entire base shooting a neverending wave of aliens. Excellent.
The first time I played Doom3, I guess, but just because it looked awesome.
And, of course, all of Final Fantasy 7, 8 and 9. Weird thing, I just remembered about emulation a few days ago and decided to go grab an ISO copy of Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics (they never came out in Europe) so I'm hoping for some more 'wow' moments from them, Xenogears especially. ___

EVE: After weeks of doing nothing but ninja mining in a Probe with my first corp, I got into a Rifter, fitted some guns and went to a belt :)
Quake: Finding the Star Wars Capture the flag mod. Lightsabre melee 4tw
Starcraft: The first time one of my Seige tanks fired :)
Safari Hunt: I actually beat it. Took hours and hours on the old Sega Master system, and there was no ability to save. Stupid in retrospect, but was proud of it at the time.

Too many to list here, but I'll try to name a few...
Doom 3 : MAde me paranoid of mirrors for a week, and I never entered a dimly lit room(yes, I did leave lights on at night for a while after that).
Final Fantasy 7 : Of course, the same reason everyone remembers that game so well. The first time I saw her die, I actually broke down into tears...
SWAT4 : The adrenaline rush of breaching a door with C2 and charging into a room with squad members with MP5's and .45 SMG's, only to be met with the suspects camped in behind barricades with AK-47's... Lots of bodies after that one...
America's Army : Looking through the scope on your sniper rifle, and lining the crosshairs on your target, only to see him aiming his own sniper rifle directly at you.

PlanetSide: The first time I logged in. I was instantly spoiled to what a FPS should be, in respect to Multiplayer. I rarely play BF2 because of this. Also fortified my love for PVP.
Earth & Beyond: Such an awesomely fun game, for it's simplicity.
Wing Commander: Prophecy: Yeah, it sucked. But that last battle with the BAJILLION bugs flying around... OMG.
FF7: Been said. Not to mention the story. I don't think I've ever read so much intoa game.
EVE: Logging in for the first time, doing the tut, and realizing the sheer size and capabilities of this game. Everytime I get a new ship or gun, I'm further amazed. I still zoom in on my ship during combat to watch the dual rails fire, because it's SO EFFING COOL. ________________ SPACE FOR RENT Inquire Ingame |

3: Eve online - the stargate activation sound

Man, there have been some great ones. Here are the ones I can think of off of the top of my head:
Starsiege TRIBES - My first FPS game and favorite FPS of all time. Hands down. Damn I miss that game.
Privateer - Getting chased by that damn Steltek drone, that you can't yet hurt, and a ton of enemy fighters through an asteroid field at afterburner speed trying to jump before that bastard punches through your last bit of aft armor.
Final Fantasy VII - Aeris' death scene. Never before have I been so moved by a character in a game.
Homeworld - When you warp back to your planet after the hyper drive test only to see the world in flames. Very moving, especially with that haunting choral version of Adagio for Strings playing.
EverQuest - Logging in to the game for the first time in beta and being blown away by this new (To me anyway) genre of game.
That's all I can think of right now. I just know I'm missing something important...

ooooo tough one, ok here goes:
Total Annihilation: watching my first kigroth(sp) walk off int gantry and thinking omg that rocks (followed shortly by it single handedly wiping out the enemy base)
Quake: Installing the shareware, starting the demo on hard with the sound up loud and the lights off, getting through to the 2nd level I think untill when the shambler stepped out from behind the piller and omgwtfbbq;d me. I literally screamed like a little girl and died in seconds, still makes my heart race that bit just from the memorys.
leagend of zelda - ocherina of time: killing ganondorf, escaping the castle and meeting gannon outside, and thinking OMG!!!
there are so many great games i can still list but there ar no other moments that stick in my head from all of them.

FF7 : aeris...omg, totally unexpected and saddening...games grew up at that point.
Elite : the daddy.
Doom : too long i played that game...
Half Life DM : first time online, oh boy what a revelation on what i had been missing...
Halo : consoles really started to attack the unassailable mountain that was pc fps. Its still amazing to this day how involved that game can get you into the story.
Project Gotham Racing : the daddy of racing games, mini/ferrari racing ftw!.
Space Invaders : on the vcs, and clocking it twice one news year eve...

1. The Mothership launch scene in Homeworld as your planet is consumed in flames. Just love the music with it.
2. Also in Homeworld, the part where the Kadeshi emerges out of the Great Nebula, the Gardens of Kadesh, and the tribal battlemusic plays as the Kadeshi Motherships disgorge their Swarmers.
3. FF7 Aeryn deathscene.
4. The final Medusa bomber run through a warp tunnel in Freespace.
5. The final charge in Freelancer, as wings and wings of fighters descend upon the alien base.
6. The first time I warped in EVE.
7. The Clans descend for the first time as the invasion of the Inner Sphere began (Mechwarrior 2).

1: The very beggining of HL2, when you get off the train into the whole opression rules area. With no idea what's going on. Then later on walking down the big city square where you can barely get a glimpse of a strider lumbering down the street.
2: The huge before the citadel in HL2 as well. Where you are in the burnt out building surrounded by striders and combine in all the close by buildings. Good stuff.
3: Building a Big Bertha in Total annihilation and watching as it randomly decimated my enemies base from the other side of the map.
4: Firing a nuke in Command and conquer generals, also using the fuel air bomb is up there as well. Love those explosions
5: Sniping somebody out of a helicopter in BF2 for the first time with my M95, it's hard to match that kinda feeling of accomplishment I felt as his helicopter started flipping over in mid air until is smashed into the side of a building.

Earth and Beyond : My first trip into the fishbowl as a level 150 Progen Warrior. Killing all the bosses, then seeing Aren'Zael The Master spawn and looking at his hitpoints and nearly peeing myself
Eve : Joining Omega Corp with a friend named Kiono, not knowing how notorious it was
Starsiege Tribes : Sitting on one side of a large gap with a sniper rifle like weapon (dont remember what it was now) and sniping people to death as they tried to cross the gap with their boosters, every time one would die Id make a whistle and a crash noise
Eve : Finally getting 100 million isk via my own blood, sweat and tears
Earth and Beyond : REBOOT! If you played on Pegalag like I did, you'll understand. Oh how I miss thee Area, oh how I miss thee.
As far as MMOs go personally I find the community much more enjoyable than certian aspects of the game, the last experence shows that.
I miss EnB, despite eve being a vastly superior game, EnB was a lot of fun, and I think any player who really stuck with it until the end like I did would agree, it was fun in its simplicity, in the ability to go out and just blow the crap out of stuff without much preperation or hassle. TBH EnB was the sandbox that I used to prepare me for the big bad world of Eve.
BTW, I havent bought an Electronic Arts game since EnB closed

AvP2 - Turning off the lights and playing as the marine in single-player (with 5.1 sound) is the creepiest thing I've ever experienced from a video game.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - The part where you find out your character's true identity. "Revan? WTF?!!!"
Star Wars Galaxies (before I cancelled my subscription because SOE ****** it up) - Taking on five Imps at once in Coronet and owning them all repeatedly for about 10 minutes (until their cloner zerg finally overwhelmed me).
Battlefield 1942 with the Desert Combat Mod - Shooting down a MiG-29 with the abrams; much ownage while flying jets and choppers.
Baldur's Gate - discovering you're the bastard offspring of the (now deceased) God of Murder, Bhaal.
Baldur's Gate II - the whole thing with the dark elf chick was amusing.
Master of Magic - Casting "Call The Void" and watching an opponent's entire city implode.
Hexen - The entire gothic ambience of that game was badass.
Original Doom - 'nuff said.
EVE - The first time I undocked a battleship; the first time I gutted another player battleship; the first time I one-volleyed a player frig from 120km in my tempest. -Wrayeth

I think my single greatest acheivement was beating SFII Turbo (with Guile) on hardest dificulty without conceeding a single round on my SNES. Remember reading that as well as all the various different endings, finishing it without losing a round got Chun Li to speak at the end. Took me a lot of tries, and after watching the end thing for ages, gave up on hearing her speak, hit START to return to title menu, heard a "Yah Ta" and fade to black... -------------

The ganandorf fight in Zelda Ocarina of Time was amazing, 'aha i have defeated yee' ill just run away down through the castle and 'what the hell' The dramatic lightning flashes. Perfection :)
SFII Turbo was just great from start too finish time and time again. Its rare to see a game like that anymore :(
Getting possible the fastest track time in Wipeout 2097 EVER. the first track at fastest setting and the fastest ship (piranhna). Every lap perfect think i got 16seconds for each lap after the first. I think i fried half my brain doing it. I saw a list of records in a magazine for all sorts of games and i smashed the Wipeout one, but then its hardly official. My score or the magazine :(

Strangely enough, all of mine happened in Everquest...
1. The first time we killed the frog for the druid epic quest. Everyone on our server was using two groups to beat him, we did it with 5 people...
2. four maning the bridge trap in Chardoc. I'd set off the trap, Enchanter Friend would mez all the mobs and my warrior and a friends Shadowknight would kill everything while a druid healed us.
3. First time we downed Aten Ha Ra. Cleared to her in record time, pulled her by accident and slaughtered her with a vengance.
4. First time we downed Ralos Zek. It took 12 tries before we got it right but when RZ died the whole guild went crazy:)
5. The last time I logged out of Everquest just over a year ago. I took my Ogre warrior back to her home city, picked a nice cave with a view, sat down and logged out. Never thought quiting a game could be so hard but I'd been playing with many of the same people for more then 5 years:)

Damn, that is one of the saddest things ive ever heard in a game. I dont know what i'd do if and when EVE stops. Mine one last cycle of ore, attack anyone and everyone? or fly out to a sun and await the last shut down of the server
Koodos on a gaming moment your number5. is a good un

I soooo agree with that. One of the best moments in gaming history, for sure.
Have to add that I made a character named Felix Furlow in WoW just before I stopped playing it. I made him a Paladin, as that's what my friend loved playing(In another game). Using his name, in respect to him and his life. He was a good friend to me and we played together for 2 years, he died from diabetes last february. ------------------------ Gamer by nature, poet by heart. |

Eve- The first time you open up the map and think OMG how big is this game!!!! KOTOR- As has been said.....Me,Revan, NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Halo- The first FPS on a console that i thought Holy s**t!!!!!!! Max Payne- The dream sequence with the bairn crying in the background, Freaked me out. At this point i could go back to the speccy and amiga days, but that would show me as the old fart i am. -----------------------------------------------

No amiga days were brilliant, lots of fond memories. Dune2, UFO. and even the C64 Midnight resistance. Brilliant. and im not that old.
As for Max Payne i forgot about that, plus the the first time you slow mo kill a room full of guys. with bullets flying all about you. Only to restart and do it again, cos it was cool. How many games make you do that ?

Half-Life, first time i encountered them commando's...hid behind a barrel.. then hear them throw a grenade over it and it rolled just in front of me. Fantastic! Tomb Raider(yeah i know..) when i first met the dino. Realms of the haunting, sweet mother of holy **** that game scared me.. I had several complete nervous breakdowns during that game. Didnt help that i was playing it at 70 degrees north winter time either. X-Wing - 1 of the first A-wing missions where you were supposed to recon a enemy fleet, and zillions of them kept warping in. 2nd or 3rd mission in first Hitman game, where you kill the guy in the restaurant. Syndicate(had just gotten sound blaster 16) and used a shotgun for the first time on a bunch of people.

(I'd hazard a guess at Kharak burning....Barber's Adagio hits the spot rather too well)

And you guys make me feel bad for me having played only Final Fantasy 1-6 I really need to get em and play em... nothing beats old school games

When I was playing an Age of Empires II 4v4 team game online with some random people I'd never met. I was getting crushed and was about to be out for good when a massive cavalry charge from my allies turned up, was just a really cool moment
