I am curious to know weather anyone else has the same experience as me- When I warp to a stargate just before the gate comes into view the game pauses for a brief second. I have a top spec PC with 1.5 gig of RAM and a G Force 6600 256mb video card, and also Broadband connection. I suppose I am being too fussy but I was wondering if anybody else has experienced this as it is really bugging me!

Yes, sometimes it happens to me to. I also have a top spec pc, and Broadband... but i guess it means nothings if the servers are having too many people on. I have also warped to a stargate and a appear in no where, full cap to, it seems to just stop all together. I also have problems with the time it takes for weapons to turn on, it takes about 10 seconds, but thats only when there are 122 people in the same system.
Nothing to do with our computers, just the lag, and thats bad cos we can't upgrade the servers!!!!!

It blows my mind how people in this day and age can't separate choppy performance with network lag. It is like not seeing the difference between Picasso and a car wreck.

Thanks Bradstone it's good to see im not alone with this, but have you (or anyone) tried running the game with Virus checkers, Firewall and Spyware protection turned off? I have and it does make a difference, that is if you wish to take a chance of course!

Oh pardon me Grimwalius sir, perhaps you could give us all the benefit of your technical superiority so please enlighten us, what exactly is the difference?

Network lag = your FPS are fine, but you click your guns and it takes a few seconds to go.
Computer lag = JERK. JERK. JERK. JERK. HARD DISK THRASH. LOAD. - Proud member of the [23].

LOL very true Dark Shikari!
I can tell the difference so can Martindale. I get about 100fps in space and 200 in station, but sadly it means totaly nothing if the server is being over worked...
I did have a computer a year ago that had very very poor performace (about 10fps) so this is 100% server. Lets just hope CCP will buy another server sometime soon to cope with the vast amounts of people on eve and in the future
In answer to the virus scanners and stuff... yes i have, i also have had music playing and defraged the hard drive at the sametime, makes no difference, and if it does its so small i can't see, virus scanners and stuff don't use all that much to run, so it should be ok to keep them on, but it if helps to turn them off i will give it ago!

Well, this phenomenon you're speaking of is sort of a mixed bag. It has more to do with ineffective programming and network issues above all. When you approach the gate in warp, your client calls for data from the server (and network lag stalls this process). while waiting for info, the game freezes while recieving all the data required to display what is to be seen at the gate. Then your computer has to process the data and load the appropiate models and sound effects.
Saying "it lags" when it just crappy FPS is so Counter-Strike 1999. Then again, not alot has happened to CS and it's players since 1999...
NOTE: this is not directly related to your issue, you're right about entitling it "server lag", but you should not have to question your hardware specs in this case.

If you want to see real network lag, do the following.
1) Log in on a Sunday.
2) Fly to Oursaelert.
3) Attempt to do anything. This may include activating a module, warping, or managing your items.
4) Fail. - Proud member of the [23].
