Babylon 5 online RPG a possibility Cult sci-fi series lined up for PC game
[17/11/2005 11:05]
The sci-fi series Babylon 5 could be turned into a MMORPG and its creator J Michael Straczynski reckons the TV show's universe would make the perfect subject matter for an online game.
"Every year or so, Warner Bros makes noises about a Babylon 5 game... and it's making them again this year," Straczynski recently claimed in an online interview. He continued, "the Babylon 5 universe is almost tailor-made for a game, especially an immersive, online experience."
A Babylon 5 game was once in development by Sierra but was eventually cancelled, so fans of the series will surely be hoping for a more positive result this time around.
intresting eh?

I think it would. the universe is amazingly detailed and what more the travel +combat style would OWN for a game imo. I like Eris so much I pretended she wrote here. Dont do that it can earn you a warning -Eris

I was gutted when Serria canceled that game bastards...I would def be chaecking out any B5 themed game for sure... i think this would be pretty damn cool. granted similar to eve, would still be nice. lots of races, lots of ships and skills etc. perhaps the option for people to operate stations on their own as sources of income etc.
which faction, though, would you play? personally i think id go for Centari or Membari. unless of course shadow ships. shadow ship ftw.

Try B5 - I¦ve found her. Dumb name but this fanproject doesn¦t look half bad and the Starfury is one hell of a ship to fly. Bit fickle though.
As to the online game, I¦m very weary of it. WB just wants to cash in on the WoW craze and a B5 game would most likely be some type of clone. Dunno any specifics of course, just have a general distrust towards Hollywood. _ Mal-`Appears we got here just in a nick of time. B5 would be kind of like EVE meets the X-Universe.

Yeah, same here. Apparently there's a movie being made based on the tabletop Rifts RPG and I'm just waiting for them to butcher it like they did the D&D movie (my God, the D&D movie was HORRID).
Well...on the up-side, Jerry Bruckheimer's supposedly doing the Rifts movie, so maybe it won't entirely suck after all, but still... The only thing in recent memory that wasn't massively butchered by hollywood, IMHO, was the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
But as for a Babylon 5 MMO, I think it'll just be another Star Wars: Galaxies - a game put out solely to make money, not for any true love of the game and the setting. God, I hate Corporate America.
EDIT: I'm American, btw, and even I hate the big corporations. -Wrayeth

There's also The Babylon Project, a total mod of the Freespace 2 source code Firstones.com Can't seem to get any of the links to the downloads to work though, not sure if they've had some problems
Not sure what would happen if they finally managed to get a game going. JMS certainly seems to stay very involved with the B5 fan base and take an interest in what's done with his product so maybe there'd be hope.
