I'm currently using 125mm Proto's and can't see the point of upgrading to Tech2 125mm's as the stats are almost exactly the same. Only differences I can see are the Tech2's are harder to fit and they can use Tech2 ammo (which you can't buy yet)
Granted the Small Rail Specialisation skill will give me another 10% damage (at lvl 5) But do people really bother? And why?
Cause I MUST be missing something...

Edited by: Wrayeth on 19/11/2005 11:03:33 That additional bonus to damage can really rack up. EVE's all about small bonuses that, together, add up to a massive difference. When I first started playing and saw how small the bonuses were, I was like, "5% bonus/level? WTF? Someone who's been playing since 2003 won't have much of an advantage over a noob!"
Oh, how wrong I was.
Just remember that every little bit helps. -Wrayeth

that 10% can save your life, and they're usually easier to come accross. That certainly applies to larger guns

techII guns with the skill to lvl4 minimum are uber better then named ones, believe me And people really do bother And if you wouldn't know, techII skill only applies to techII guns,so your proto's won't benefit from that skill if trained

They're easier (cheaper) to replace, too.

According to the description on the the turret specialization skills.. they each give the bonus to all turrets requiring that skill.. a large turret II requires the specialization from small, medium, and large, so all at lvl 5, that is 30% damage increase... I'll take the extra 30% damage from the t2 over named anyday..

I seriously doubt this is how it works.

Nope, not how it works.

Edited by: Snake Jankins on 19/11/2005 11:59:10 Edited by: Snake Jankins on 19/11/2005 11:57:30 pros: higher max damage with specialisation skill, more damage per isk, higher availability ( easier to get t2 in 0.0 than named stuff from a different region ) cons: higher fitting requirements and more SP needed
Once i've sold a Hakim 1400mm cannon for 400mil isk, probably the best in game. The truth is that a 1400mm T2 with specialization skill at 4 beats hakim's max damage and dps.
Another example are t2 cruise launcher. They have higher dps than t1 dominations if you have the specialisation skills at 2 and dominations are a lot more expensive. So the only reason not to use t2 are fitting requirements and lack of skills.
So t2 is just better especially for pvp ships becoause it's good and cheap.
Another point is that 10 percent more damage vs. a tanked ship doesn't mean that you get your enemy down 10 percent faster, but makes a bigger difference. Simple proof: If you can't beat the tank it takes forever, 10 percent more damage might be enough to beat the tank. ___________ 'DISCLAIMER: All opinions in this post are provided "as is" and without any warranties.' |

well in case of large blasters only reason is price, because in any viable setup you need to fit cpu, and cpu + 10% < dmg mod
But main reason is to appear l33t on kill mails :) Be back in a year or so :/

that 10% can be the difference between being tanked and breaking the tank.

125mm II at spec 3 has marginly higher DPS than a 150mm Proto
From base value's you, save 4 cpu, 2 PG, Activation cost, Tracking lose 1km falloff, 4km optimium
