What if they added another universe? I know it deviates from the big selling point of eve that we are all in one world, but it might be kind of an attractive idea to new startups... get a fresh start on an untouched universe? |

Mostly MMO's shard because its cheap and easy, not because it isn't possible to do better as CCP do.
Quite a few sharded games have failed to put enough investment (money and work) into the shards and ended up with dreadfull lag all the same. . ----- Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

They do when you have a large number of them in one place. If you have one ship and it's running a shiel dhardneer in the middle of nowehre, it has to send the information to show a shield hardener effect to that one client. If you have ten people there, it has to send that information to all 10 clients. If each of them has a hardener running, it has to send 10 messages to each of 10 clients, making 100 messages total. If each of them is running five hardeners, that's 500 messages for 10 people. You get the idea.
I think you are a bit confused.
The 'messages' (packets) being sent by the sheild hardeners to all the other clients causes the lag. This lag is being caused by overcongestion of an internet connection causing some packets to be delayed. This is not caused by the graphics, this is caused by the internet.
In this example, if the lag were to be caused by the graphics, it would by your computer trying to display the sheild hardeners that is causing it, not the number of packets of data being sent.
Lag is (basically) a measurement of the latency of data travelling between two computers. It is impossible for lag to be caused client side, because it does not exist on either client (just the repercussions of the effect of the lag).
To the OP, if you are having a lot of problems with lag, the problem may not be CCP's fault. There may be a problem with your ISP's routing to London for example. I suggest you take the advise a few posts up and run some connectivity tests.
The simplest solution to the lag problem in Ours (and any other popular system), is to simply not go there. There are hundreds of other systems that you could be using.

Originally by: Marit Hullaballoo Well... perharps I was not enough clear on starting post. The only thing I tried to explain is the fact that during the last week, I noticed that I was unable to play in normal conditions. Just this. And that it seems that the only important thing for CCP is getting more and more accounts and concurrent ppl on the game, regardless of the playability of the game. And It's a fact that gaming is getting worse as time passes.
btw... Gray Carmicheal, I don't care if u are working for U.S. Navy as specialized technician or as a toilet cleaner. I don't care if u are in Japan or in Slovenia. So, plz, stop talking about you.
And don't forget that EVE is just a bussiness, that CCP is an enterprise and that you and me are the customers, so we have the right to claim for the things we are paying, and whine every time we are not satisfied.
And I'm not. Marit.
Sry for my poor english. Is not my 1st language.
u know u should go and play wow they complain all the time for anything!! i have lag but geez i know CCP trying to sort it. So anyhow u dont like it then unstall EVE other wise STFU and wait!!
Oh and stopping new accounts?? u crazy its more money mean more staff and better euipment! just get real honestly

Umm - one thing. I was ctding every half hour or so for 2-3 weeks. This was due to a route issue in London. CCP was aware of the issue but chose to wait to fix it( reroute some ports) until scheduled service a couple weeks after the problem started. There were only a few thousand accounts affected so they let us ctd until they could do the maintainence at a convenient date. So sometimes CCP knows of the issue and is not going to address it right away. I'm not slamming CCP but for the people who say nothing can be done about the connections, well very often you are wrong. CCP pays for bandwith, when routes fail, peering fails or other issues arise there are almost always ways to resolve them in at most two or three days. If you make it a priority.

It just dosn't work like that. You can't just re-route traffic and ports because 95% of the time there is trouble it's on someone elses network. Trying to get others to fix a problem is hard, even harder to even try to found out who owns that network and get someone on the phone thats "really" in charge of fixing the issue.
