this is somewhat of a newb question but here goes... Looking over alot of the ship setups on the forum i swear their is an impossible amount of powergrid needed. For example the moa setup, everyones like "4x 250mm rails and among many other things". 4x 250 rails requires 900 powergrid, with the total for the setups coming to near 1250. the moa comes stock with only 750. I currently have 870 and dont understand how its possible to fit all that stuff even with some power boosters. Thanks in advance.

PDUs?
Or are those ships you were looking at actually Eagles...
Not all people who suggest setups actually setup those ships, sometimes they might get their numbers wrong..

PDUs, RCUs, engineering skill, advanced weapon upgrades.
Most Moa setups with shield tanks for NPCing I assume would come with PDUs by default. - Proud member of the [23].

Heres an example straight for the moa setup topic:
highs: 4 * 250mm compressed coil gun I 900pw 2 * XR-3200 heavy missile launcher (like the name)200pw
meds: medium shield booster II13pw 'anointed' I EM ward1pw medium subordinate screen stabaliser I75pw capacitor recharger I1pw
lows: 2 * capacitor power relay I0pw 1 * power diagnostic system I0pw 1 * co-processor I1pw
TOTAL:1191pw
Moa Stock: 750pw + (power diagnostic system I [5% {37.5pw}]) + (Engineering Lvl 4 [20% {150pw}]) = 937.5pw
Advanced Weapon Upgrades Lvl 4 = -8% (1100 * .08 = 88pw)
So after all the math this is what i get:
To use that stuff you need about ~1100 powergrid, but only have ~940pw at best. The thing is 20 other people in the forum are agreeing that the setup is good.
p.s. i know my numbers arnt perfect but where is this extra 160pw coming from that these people need to equip their ship the way they say they have it.

Active shield tank + cap relay is a nono.

Go grab all the engineering, electronics, mechanic skill to lvl 4 if not 5 and some gunnery skills and those set ups are easy to fit. As your skills increase fittings get easier..

Well, that setup will never fit, no matter what skills you have (~1062/984pg). I can only assume it was prior to some grid changes, or it was never tested.
However as mentioned, those cpr's don't make it a very good setup. Swapping them out for pdu's should give you enough grid to make this fit if you have high enough PG skills (engineering, weapon/shield upgrades) as well as make it a better fitting.

Could you have stumbled onto an old Moa thread? That setup strikes me as something that might have been used a couple of years ago, before a whole heap of grid, CPU and fitting req changes.
Used to be heayv launchers required around, what, 60MW grid was it. And, CPRs didn't used to nerf shield tanking, either.
Many things have changed since then.

no matter the grid problem, seeing the co-pro on this setup indicates it's bad :-) Only thing that fits cpu enhancers are mining ships. ------------------------------ Removed due to offensive content - Laqum

not only do the total grid and cpu of a ship improve with better skills but also the fitting requirements of modules drop with better skills
can you put a price on peace? |

Looks like you will need Enginering , Electronics, Weapon Upgrades, Advanced weapon Upgrades to fit that by looks of it, and ur useing cap realys?? havent u noticed the -20% sheild boost amount bonus, Use power diag 2s or 1s. I think theres s afew other CPU and PG reduceing skills that modules use but cant think of them off hand.
