Is it always honorable to reveal the truth?
If not, then I could see how someone might lose respect for BoB "telling the truth" here.
You're invited to a surprise birthday party for a certain friend. Later that same friend asks you what you're doing on that particular night. You answer truthfully, "I'm going to your surprise b-day party, bro!"
Respectful? Honorable?
You tell a hottie co-worker with whom you're infatuated that you saw her husband flirting with another woman. Chaos ensues.
Honorable? Respectful?
The reason why some people might lose a bit of respect for a BoB leader posting the chat log is that they didn't do it because "honesty is the best policy" or that they felt some moral imperative. That's why you'll even see some BoB leaders and other members here on this thread not necessarily agreeing that this was a good thing to do.
The BoB leader who posted the chat log did it out of malice and a perceived opportunity for self-aggrandizement. There was no need to post the log publicly. In his own words, he did it because he likes drama, that and he knew it would engender two likely outcomes:
1. G is at best embarrassed collectively over a single leader's remarks; at worst, G loses all the respect they'd accumulated in their well-executed attacks on SA in the previous weeks. Molle probably hated seeing G's star rising as a result of their successes.
2. BoB creates the appearance that they are more honest and upstanding in the political aspect of this game than others -- something we know is false, as BoB can play dirty with the best of us.
Yes, BoB did win by doing this. They made themselves look better. But they didn't do it by being better, rather they did it by making others look worse. Congratulations.

Originally by: Adhamhnon I still love that just as Xetic starts to take a tumble, Olyyy, the supposed minister of defence, quits his job and leaves Xetic without even an attempt to help defend it... yet over half a year later he's still calling us the bad guys. Ok pot, this is kettle, you know what you are.
I won't blame you for you lack of clues. you were just a grunt with a limited access to informations and politics. Not your fault. Lemme help you:
3 days before the war, I request an emergency XF meeting. I share intel with ceos. I propose a plan in which we NAP [5] but also get some mutual defense pacts around to make sure we won't be easy to deal with (simple calculations: [5] can't hold 15 regions at the same time, so attacking us would have been fubar). Answer from ceos: NO at 37 votes against 2. No NAP with [5]. mmkay... So I start the explainations "errm guys... if we don't NAP them, they're gonna kick our asses -sorry, your asses- so bad that we're gonna ship EMP L for a year". I keep on with logical explainations "XF doesn't stand a chance against [5] in a war. If we don't NAP them, they'll take any excuse to attack us, we should play clever here" Then I got explained by ceos, lead by KSUDruid and yoristar (note: old leadership would never listen to yoristar on that kind of situation) that I was a coward, irrealistic, that we were great, uber, kicking ass, going to outblob them, kill them all...
KSUDruid realizing how irrealistic I was, uncapable to understand our greatness, decided to put on a motion of "non confidence" toward the ogvernment, me especially ^^ It didn't pass (didn't pass because XF kinda lacked of volunteers when it came to major alliance positions). But as far as I was concerned the incidents that day (people not listening to the MoD on a defense topic, motions of non confidence etc...) were showing me I wouldn't be an MoD making unanimity in case of a war.
I remained MoD as long as possible to try to prevent the war, take some decisions to prepare supplies etc... Of course I had no intention to be MoD during the war. when it started, I did my most terrible mistake: get replaced by KSUDruid who seemed to obviously know what he was doing *shrugs* (goal was to have DDC in a post of responsabilities to prevent a CLS split to happen, guess what: it didn't work). Now with that, I also have a life behind, studies 'n stuff. I was expecting the war to last at least 6 months and I'm sorry but june, july and august are not really my favorite months to spend days or nights in front of my screen And with that I wanted to get replaced as MoD since 2 months already (nobody wanted the job... *happiness*)
So I became Minister of Treasury (the guy paying insurrance to people loosing ships - a full time job in war time ^^) until new leadership tried to explain its incompetence by blaming old timers. Then resigned and left. I kept an alt in XF that fought in CLS gangs in feythabolis until CLS/DCC splitted from XF. I can tell you that my alt was left behind
Now... I'm still calling you traitors, backstabbers etc... And I still don't see a problem with that
Dear friendly customer... Can I have your money ?

Honestly Olyyy? I really don't know why you keep beating this dead horse. Xetic is dead. It has been for 6 months. Its members have spread to all corners of the galaxy and aquired new allegiances. Its space is now under the sovereignty of 4 different alliances. Why do you keep bringing up a topic that has been mulled over, debated, and twisted to fit the views and purposes of various parties dozens of times?

Welcome to the political scene with your first approved analyzis. To be able to get a A, you do however need to add some twisting, and some spinning, as well as some chaos theories along with a few conspiracy theories.
Reasons for letting everyone know? It's time G learn how to play the politics scene, and their first ever attempt at it failed miserably.
Better luck next time G.

Quote: What I wonder that is not involed in this anyway is how would ASCN attack G if SA said they wanted ASCN¦s help?
Was G put to +5 at that time?
Would you give G a timeframe before you gonna attack them or should you take advantage to attack right away to conflict a bigger dmg and therefore help SA more?
You sir should read up a bit more. It's been stated, about 3 days before the G standings flip, ASCN had assembled a fleet in AZN to "assist" moving G out. ASCN leaders were in convo with G and an agreement was reached, and the fleet was told to stand down.
So... yes. G was well aware of what was happening before it would have. Turns out it didn't, diplomacy works. G later decided they didnt like it and 3 days after said agreement flipped on it and started shooting, using the motd from DDC (from the aforementioned fleet op) as justification.
At least, such is my understanding, garnered from what I've seen and what came out in the original thread.
(Note, I'm just a peon, my thoughts are my own :))

This is funny. All these northern people and their alts are talking about honor and respect? Talking about posting truth being dishonorable? LetÆs re-examine what happened here and then we can talk about respect and honor.
G backstabs ASCN and attacks them after they made some kind of a deal on SA space (DonÆt know, donÆt care).
They LIE about the attack just being for fun, since they are obviously (thanks to the chat logs) looking to slave ASCN.
They again LIE about not asking anyone for help, since not only did they call in all the northern boys they could muster, all the southerners opposition that they could gather, but they also attempted to get their own enemies to backstab and attack ASCN.
Now thatÆs what you call honor and respect, but telling the truth is like telling your friend about surprise party? G had a different kind of a party planned for ASCN, but they got their own surprise from BoB. Truth hurts, doesnÆt it?
I guess thatÆs what the north itÆs all about. One backstab after another. I think RA(T) would fit well with you guys. I would love to see that chat log.
The truth will set you free

And for the umpteenth time, G did not call for northern aid, as we were already down here...
