i am getting a pretty good handle on learning skills, but i have yet to see any attribute point manipulation. the tutorial never went over methods of increasing my attribute points, and i am a little confused as to how it happens.
furthermore, where can i get more information on what each attribute does? when i right click on the attributes in my character sheet, i just get an option to 'copy text'... i would like some information on what they do instead!

Your attributes are set when you create your character, but can be increased by training learning skills, and using implants.
As for the attribute information you seek, check here: Eve-online KB: Attributes

Just to make it abundantly clear: All attributes do is decrease the time it takes to learn skills. Go here and work your way down to the part about attributes.
Also, yeah, all of the skills in the Learning category increase your attributes, as do some implants. Also, doing Show Info on a skill will show its primary attribute and secondary attribute (secondary is only half as important as the primary for how long it takes to train the skill).

GC: thank you very much for the pointer to that information. it was exactly what i needed to make my decisions.
thank you also, for everyone else who weighed in on this subject. (oh, this is morthvargr in my newly built, not EXACTLY quite so newbie character)
the stats i have arrived upon are: 10 int, 10 perception, 7 will, 7 memory, and 6 charisma.
i know willpower turned out a little low, but i am going to get iron will and shore it up first thing.
what do you think? is this a more or less okay build?

might have trouble if you end up running a lot a agent missions with a very low charisma. What this would mean is that it takes you a very long time to gain enough standing to get to lvl2 missions where the cash you get starts to be more than just a token reward. I know because thats how I wound up although I am to far long to change it.

Charisma doesn't affect how fast you gain standing. Attributes only affect the time required to train skills. You will train social skills a little slower than a high CHA player, but not so much as to prompt you to gimp more important attributes for it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Everyone should read the EVE Tracking Guide. |

True, train social and connection skills, you will get to lvl 2 agent much faster. I've been working with a lvl 2 agent for about three weeks, and now I got access to lvl 4 agent. --------- Another messy sig I've created

Edited by: Sharcy on 24/11/2005 11:42:51 Go to this thread and download the EVE Master Data Sheet. It's an Excel worksheet that lets you calculate, among others, your skill points, the time it takes to train for new levels and your final goals. Fiddle with the numbers and you'll have a much better understanding of how it's all connected. It's helped me a lot.

Learning Skills = Attribute Points
Iron Will = 1 Willpower Clarity = 1 Perception Learning = .1 to all stats
and so forth.
Also
Attributes = Training Time in other skills, nothing else. It does not affect how your ship handles or anything else, ONLY affects the training time of learning other skills. The other skills are what affects how your ship handles and so forth.
